Visual Art

Year 9 Visual Art students participated in a full day artist incursion exploring textiles and design.  As a part of their Fabulous Fibres unit, students are exploring the concept of the Bauhaus period and 'Less is More'. The visiting artist introduced fabrics and threads and encouraged a less conventional approach to stitch where the thread became drawing lines. Visible knots were encouraged. Students turned their explorations with fabric into a functional brooch. It was an amazing creative opportunity that complimented their current learning.

The Year 6 students participated in a workshop with artist David Wells exploring realism through portraiture and pastels. Students worked on a self portrait from a side profile experimenting with light and shadows. The skills and techniques that David shared were invaluable in achieving a likeness.

Drama

Year 7 Performing Arts students performed their scenes of Roald Dahl’s, The BFG, to our Year 3 students. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their acting skills, utilising voice and movement, to connect with a younger audience. Next Term, the students will be working on a song and dance with a guest artist on a musical theatre piece.

Year 9 students performed their powerful physical theatre pieces to their peers. They utilised stylised movement and symbolism to plight of refugees. They are to be congratulated on a focused performance which was polished and well-rehearsed.
