DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS CATHERINE HOWISON - DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Student Leadership

In the first three weeks of Term 4 our Year 11 students will be encouraged to apply for a number of Student Leadership roles in our school. We begin with the election of our School Captains. To be considered for school captain a student must have been an active member of a Student Leadership Committee. They must also articulate their active support of School values and demonstrate a commitment to the school through attendance, presentation and participation. Students in Year 10 and 11 can apply to be  Leadership Committee Captains of the following committees - Activities, Arts, Academic, Environment, Faith and Mission, LRC and Wellbeing. Additionally there are the House Captain roles for Year 12 students and Year 9 Junior House Captains. This is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate and develop their leadership. Application forms are available in the Pastoral Care Centre.

Uniform

The two week break gives students and families ample time to have uniform items ready for Term 4. In particular students are reminded that:

  • All students should have a hat with them at recess and lunch.
  • The summer dress should have a hem that is no more than 10 cm above the knee
  • Students are not permitted to wear long sleeve t-shirts under either the summer dress or the polo shirt. If the weather is cool the option is there to wear a jumper or the school jacket.

It is important to note that next year every student is expected to be in the new uniform. This includes our Year 11 students who are going into Year 12.

Take a break

I hope that all our students are able to take a break over the holidays. I am sure there will be things to do for our senior students however rest and relaxation are an important part of our overall health. It might be a chance for students to take a break from screens and devices and go off the grid, even for a short amount of time. The holidays give us space to try something new, maybe this is a good time to try Intermittent Technology Fasting.

The idea behind intermittent fasting from technology is to give your brain and body a break from the constant stimulation and information overload that can come with technology use. Starting off very simply it might be worth trying staying off any screens for the first two hours when you wake up and then the last two hours of the day before you go to bed. By taking regular breaks, you may find that you are more present, focused, and productive when you do use technology.

All the best for a restful and enjoyable holiday break.
