ICAN Program

This term has been a busy one for our Wellbeing team. We have run the ICAN Program for some of our junior students. ICAN celebrates diverse thinking and provides the skills for  neurodiverse students to have a voice. We were fortunate to receive funding through Student Focused Youth Service for the program which ran for six weeks and was facilitated by ICAN staff. This program helped build confidence and social connection in a safe, positive environment. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to share interests and discuss common experiences in a safe and supportive space and benefitted from the ICAN mentors as role models.

Art Therapy

Several of our students have also participated in an Art Therapy course run by Kelly Stacey. Kelly is studying a Master of Art Therapy through LaTrobe University and is completing her placement at Headspace Swan Hill. Kelly approached St Mary MacKillop College and asked if we would be interested in being a part of her final project, which we were. Kelly investigated whether the use of clay-like materials can reduce anxiety levels in young people. The project was run once a week for three weeks, the students were relaxed and mindful during the activities, below are a few of the finished art pieces the students produced.

Kelly will share the results of her findings to us in the next few weeks.
