10B WORK EXPERIENCE REFLECTIONS

10B Work Experience

The majority of students from 10B completed their work experience placements last week. It has been great to visit them and hear about their days working in an industry area of their choice. As always, we are very grateful for the support of numerous local businesses who willingly support our work experience program by offering placements. Here are some edited reflections of their placements:

I went to Academy Graphics for my work experience placement. I  enjoyed my time there and consider it as a possible career option.  I was given two fake briefs that I completed over the five days. This included making three potential logos and business cards for each brief, as well as a flyer, noodle box design, site sign design, van design, and a letterhead. As well as completing one or two small jobs for the staff, they let me create a shirt, cap and a stubby holder design. I truly thank everyone at Academy Graphics for giving their time and resources despite how busy they were.

During my enriching five-day work experience program at Billabong Ranch Echuca, I had the opportunity to undertake a wide range of unique and exciting tasks that helped me learn valuable skills. One of my primary responsibilities was to maintain and clean the animal paddocks. I ensured that the animals were comfortable, well fed, and had access to clean water. I also prepared the ponies for pony rides, including saddling them up and leading children around the yard on the pony. In addition to this, I got to take care of the puppies and sure that their pens were clean and they had adequate food and water.  Overall, I had a fantastic time.  The staff were all very supportive, friendly, and encouraging.

The experience provided me with an excellent insight into the world of animal care and helped me realise my potential. I am grateful to everyone for their kindness and support.     Jasmine Harvey

I completed my work experience at the Swan Hill Veterinary Clinic. I observed many different surgeries and experienced what it was like working in this very hands-on environment and was the one to keep track of the animal's vital signs during the surgery. The Vets were very good at explaining what they were doing a why. I looked at unborn kittens and puppy embryos to see how they develop and I also watched a dog have puppies.  I was also able to talk about different career paths and different ways of getting into uni. I am now keener than ever to continue down this career path. I thank everyone at Swan Hill Veterinary Clinic for being so welcoming and having me.

I completed my work experience at Mil Movement for two days. I observed all the different types of people Exercise Physiologists work with including Pilates to help with the client issues. We had one house visit who was doing exercises to help their balance and get stronger in the arms. We did a couple of workouts with the clients who all had different end goals. It was a very good experience and I could see myself maybe going into the career. Thank you to Mil Movement for giving me this amazing experience.

I did my Work experience at Savhoo Hair and the owner, Hayley was very  encouraging and supportive and taught me many things. I loved meeting the different people that came in and was confident answering their questions. I washed a client’s hair, blow waved my mums hair, cut dads hair, and straightened Hayley and Skye’s hair and was grateful for their suggestions to do those tasks well. I did some other general duties in the salon and am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work there.

Last week I was extremely fortunate to get the opportunity to complete work experience in various allied health workplaces. I went to Mid Murray Chiropractic, Mallee Physio and Central Mallee Health (Osteopathy).   Observations gave me some insight into the workday of a Chiropractor, and really noticed the mixed bag of patients and problems you see. The staff were warm and welcoming and I feel that Chiropractic could definitely be a career for me.

At Mallee Physio, the majority of the day was hydrotherapy and going through exercise programs. I really enjoyed doing the hydrotherapy and exercise because fitness and recovery an area of interest for me. I also enjoyed the rehabilitation side of it because it was just great to see how they help people in need.  Physiotherapy could also be a possible career for me, especially rehab.

Central Mallee Health was a great opportunity to observe the different methods of an Osteopath and the broad range of patients’ issues that they face.  I loved to see all the different methods an osteopath uses in treatment, I saw methods such as massage therapy, injury assessments and another interesting method surrounding the nervous system,  and this experience was a great insight into the job to make that decision.

I did my work experience at Seed Ability a child therapy clinic in Swan Hill as I am thinking of pursuing a career in either Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology in the future.  During my placement, I worked with both during my time there and I have been inspired to study one of these courses in the future. I participated in food school, where different foods were introduced to children to build tolerance to them by playing with the food given. I observed how children were able to recognise what they were feeling and helped them to find ways to regulate themselves.

I enjoyed many different interactions with clients depending on the client’s needs and truly value the opportunities given to me at Seed Ability and how welcome I felt while there. I am thankful for this opportunity and work there with a great team of people.

I completed my work experience at The Kerang Border Vets. I enjoyed my placement there and learned a lot of valuable skills and information. I observed surgeries and consultations as well as some cleaning and general maintenance. My favourite parts were the surgeries and consultations, it was very fun to work with animals and learn about how to treat them. I saw a variety of animals such as cats, dogs, birds, rats and kangaroos.  I am now definitely considering becoming a Vet in the future as I enjoyed my placement and gained a lot of valuable experience and information. I had a wonderful time and learned a lot!
