Science Week

Science Week was well celebrated at GPS in week 10 of term 3. All students attended The Silly Scientist performance on Monday. During the performance, the presenters demonstrated fun and exciting science activities including; biological sciences, chemical sciences, earth and space sciences and physical sciences.

We received a fantastic response to the Science Week competition. Students were tasked with making a model or poster of an Australian innovation or solving a problem by innovating/inventing something new.

The submissions received were AMAZING, and Miss S is so proud as a science teacher to see all the creative ways the students explored innovation.

3rd place - Hannah S
Equal 2nd Place - Archer J
Equal 2nd Place - Roxie S
3rd place - Hannah S
Equal 2nd Place - Archer J
Equal 2nd Place - Roxie S

3rd place was awarded to Hannah S from 402, who created a poster about the avocado plant and how an Australian innovated the plant to grow more efficiently for popular consumption.

In equal 2nd place, Roxie S from 409 and Archer J from 410. Roxie created a model of her own innovation by combining solar and wind power technology to better use green/renewable energy. Archer created a poster about the importance of the indigenous innovation of cultural burning and its positive effects on the Australian environment.

Equal 1st Place - Josie E
Equal 1st Place - Isla C
Equal 1st Place - Josie E
Equal 1st Place - Isla C

And finally, Josie E from 1407 and Isla C from 401 were awarded 1st place. Josie created a poster on the cochlear implant which has helped people with hearing impairments improve their ability to detect sounds. Isla made a model of the black box flight recorder, an Australian innovation that records flight data to help us understand aviation accidents in order to improve and prevent future issues and accidents in air travel.

Thank you and well done to all the students who participated in this year's Greenwith Primary Science Week competition.
