Assessment Schedule at St Bede's

Your children may have reported to you that they are participating in a variety of tests at the moment. Some of the tests that we use at this time of the year are:

PAT (Progressive Achievement tests) for Maths, Reading ,Vocabulary and Spelling

These tests are conducted twice in the year. Initially to diagnose starting points and

establish what students are capable of, then challenge them at the appropriate level for effective learning.

At this time of the year the PAT tests monitor student progress. We assess at recommended intervals to measure learning growth over time.

BAS (Benchmark assessment system) for reading assess students on their reading level that includes both their ability to read but also importantly their ability to comprehend what they have read.

PM Reading is used with Prep to Grade 2 students. This test only tests the child's ability to decode (read) not their ability to comprehend. This is a system requirement.

While these tests are occurring these are often the children's reading or maths focus group for the day as the teacher observes while the children are working on their assessments to further our understanding of the child's abilities, or with some of these tests they are 1:1 testing.
