Principal Appointment

Message from School Council President - October 2023

Dear Ballarat High School Community

Ballarat High School Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Stephan Fields as the next Principal of Ballarat High School, commencing on the 29th of January 2024.

Stephan is highly experienced and credentialed. He has been the Principal of Woodmans Hill Secondary College since its commencement in January 2019. He has been instrumental in guiding Woodmans Hill SC to the wonderful achievements and reputation it has today.  Prior to this, Stephan held senior leadership roles at Ballarat Clarendon College and was an Assistant Principal at Phoenix P-12 Community College for 3 years.

Stephan commenced his education career in the United Kingdom, where he had more than 15 years in various teaching and leadership roles.

The expectations of a new Principal were very comprehensive, both from the entire school community and during the selection process. The Principal Selection Panel was delighted with the level of interest shown in the position by a large number of highly qualified candidates.  This reflected positively on the standing of Ballarat High School in the eyes of the education community.

At the conclusion of the selection process, the Selection Panel made their recommendation to the School Council, who then accepted and elected to endorse Stephan Fields as the new Principal.

I congratulate Stephan on his appointment and assure him of our support, as he takes up the challenges that are ahead in the coming years.

Stephan’s message: ‘I am incredibly honoured to lead Ballarat High School into the next exciting chapter of its story. The vision that I have for Ballarat High School is a vision I know will be shared by every member of the school community. It is to secure the best outcomes, to provide the best care and support, the most diverse and exciting pathways, the most enriching and life-shaping experiences so that we produce students who we challenge and stretch and instill with a real sense of pride in themselves and in their school. I want all students to experience good growth, so that they see themselves as successful learners who are opportunity ready and who have the drive and ambition to make a difference in their own lives and the lives of their community’.

Yours sincerely
