Springvale Rise Primary School Community Hub

All Things Hub

This Refugee Week, our Springvale Rise Community Hub embraced the theme “A Year of Welcome” by celebrating the rich diversity of cultures across both campuses. We came together in a week filled with heartfelt connection, delicious food, and powerful stories. On both the Heights and Springvale Campuses, families, community members, and school staff shared meals across cultures—bringing flavours and traditions from across the world. Inspired by the Refugee Council of Australia’s “Share a Meal, Share a Story” initiative, these events fostered laughter, conversation, and new friendships. Refugee Week reminded us of the profound strength found in cultural diversity. By coming together to eat and share stories, we deepened the bonds among families and staff—showing how small moments can build a more welcoming and united school community. Thank you to every family and staff member who helped make Refugee Week so memorable. Your participation brought warmth, understanding, and unity to our school.

On Monday, 23 June, in collaboration with Kidsafe Victoria and Emergcare,  Springvale Rise hosted a Paediatric First Aid session for over 35 community members—parents, grandparents, carers —led by certified local instructors. The three‑hour, interactive workshop covered essential emergency skills for children aged 0–8 years, including baby and child CPR, choking, drowning, burns, bleeding, asthma, fevers, seizures, bites/stings, fractures, head injuries, and poisoning, providing hands-on practice through real-life scenarios. The session was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback, with participants expressing newfound confidence and reduced anxiety about acting swiftly and safely in emergencies—a testament to the value of teaching first aid to families and carers. Thank you to all who attended and to our skilled instructors for equipping our community with life‑saving skills—stay tuned for more training opportunities in upcoming Hub newsletters!
