Principal's Message

Mr Bill Innes | Interim Principal

Dear Parents and Friends of The King’s College,

As my six-month tenure at the College draws to a close, this will be my last communication to The King’s community.

A passing thought at this time: We tend to treat time like a very finite and unchanging element in our lives – by way of example, a team at UWA has made the world's most accurate clock, measuring time to within one second in 300 million years! Our lives are governed by the clock!  And yet, as we live our daily lives, time, seems to expand and contract according to our situation – so, for example, when we are late for an appointment, a red traffic light can seem to take forever to change; but when we are having the time of our lives, time just seems to fly by!

For me, this past six months has taken a really long time to absolutely fly by!  I can’t believe it is over already.

I have been truly blessed to be a part of The King’s College journey these past six months.  I have worked alongside a team of truly dedicated teachers, administrators and support staff – a team that punches well above their weight when it comes to caring deeply for every student, working to prepare them to be meaningful contributors to our society in the future.

I have valued the support and friendship of the majority of parents with whom I have interacted (and been disappointed by the few who have treated my staff with disrespect and, sometimes, distrust). Schools are communities - and communities thrive on trust and relationship. In the absence of trust and relationship, things slow down - sometimes they break down completely. In Christ, we are all called to restore – when relationships wear thin, our responses will either bring about healing and restoration - or they will escalate the discord. At The King’s College we actively seek Harmony.

And now, as I take my leave, it is with the greatest confidence that I hand over to Acting Principal, Mr Daniel O’Malley, for the next semester. I see in Daniel all the necessary skills, temperament and wisdom required to lead the College successfully and effectively. In addition, having been a part of the College and the College Executive Leadership for a number of years, he has a deep understanding of the workings within the College. Please keep Daniel in your prayers as he steps up to lead the College into its next chapter.

In closing, an old Irish blessing:  “As you slide down the bannister of life, may the splinters always face the other way…”

Every blessing,

Bill Innes

Interim Principal
