Hello families and friends!
It is Week 9 and we are heading close to the end of term!
Reading and Writing
For the term we have been looking at poetry. We have been exploring poetic devices in our reading lessons and applying it in our writing. Students have been using figurative language such as similes, metaphors, hyperboles and alliterations. We have been using the 5 senses to help add feeling into our writing and make it more descriptive.
Mathematics
For non number we have been looking clocks which we will continue to look at until the end of term. The grade 3 requirement is that students are telling time to the minute, which can be a hard concept to grasp, so if you have time, keep practicing this skill at home.
We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

It has been such a fun term! From the zoo excursion to getting immersed in our Humanities project, we are just loving it!
In Reading, we have been looking into analysing the theme and message in different poems. We have also been making connections and identifying different poetic devices!
In Writing, we have been creating our own Haiku & Cinquain poems. We have been experimenting with alliteration, personification, repetition, rhythm and rhyme. Check out some of our poems below!
In Maths, we have begun practicing how to read time on an analogue clock and calculate elapsed time. We have been experimenting with a range of different addition and subtraction strategies, like bridging to ten, split strategy, bar model, fact families and vertical algorithm. We have also learnt a funky rhyme to help us round and estimate, it goes like this!
“Find your place, look next door,
\5 or greater? Add one more!
4 or less? Let it go – make the rest zero!
In Science, we have been looking at chemical weathering! Yesterday we conducted an experiment using chalk and vinegar. We explored how chemical weathering occurs on our chalk drawings as the vinegar caused it to fizz and break down our chalk drawing. Check out the results from our experiment!
