Dress Up as a Teacher Day
APS TRIBES
Last week, the students of APS had their first Tribes session! This was a huge success, and there was a buzz around the school as students from Prep to Year 5 connected with their peers and teachers and maybe even explored a new part of the school! A real highlight was seeing the Year 4 and 5 students ‘step up’ and take on natural leadership roles within their tribe, helping the youngest students to feel confident and successful in the Tribe. This first session was a bit more of a ‘meet and greet’, but keep an eye out next term for some more Tribes fun!
What is a Tribe? A group of students from across the Years P-5, led by a teacher. Think of ‘pastoral groups’ or ‘home groups’. There are 16 tribes across the school.
How have they been chosen? Completely randomly! Students (and teachers!) from all year levels were numbered and sorted into groups, resulting in random groups.
Why have Tribes been created? In response to feedback from students at APS, Tribes has been created to help build connections across the school. The aim is for students to make connections with their peers and teachers across the school, across levels and across classrooms. Being a part of a Tribe gives students another opportunity to make meaningful relationships with people other than the students and teachers in their year level.
When do Tribes happen? So far, we have only had one trial session, which went beautifully! The plan is to have more sessions next term, allowing for Tribes to meet, get to know each other, and learn together!
What’s next for Tribes? Well, there are 2 Tribes sessions in the works for Term 3! One will involve some ‘team spirit’ style activities, and the other will be linked with Book Week.
BOOK WEEK
Wishing everyone a happy, happy last week of Term 2!
It’s that time of year again where you dust off the sewing machines, pull a few all nighters and make some amazing costumes.
Book Week is from the 16th August – 23rd August and boy are we excited here at APS. Our day for the costumes and the special visitors/grandparents will be held on Wednesday the 20th August.
Students will bring home invites at the start of next term. This is a great time of the year to think about a lovely book to donate during the week’s festivities. We love all books here and are happy to receive donations of good copies of books you may be done with at home or a shiny, new book from a local bookstore. I will mention, Bumageddon by Andy Griffiths is well stocked.
Our Premiers’ Reading Challenge is still underway and many students are continuing to log their books and reviews. There was a great review about a Taylor Swift book that included a recipe for a mocktail. This is in my go-to pile for the holidays. Keep adding your books and reviews. They all go towards your overall count. The challenge will conclude in September when the certificates will be issued to those students involved.
Hopefully your holidays are full of reading, costumes and a little relax.
Happy reading folks!
