It has been another fantastic term at APS. As we finish up the term I’d like to wish everyone, students, families, and staff an amazing break.

Be safe and look after yourself. Rejuvenate and get ready for Term 3 which is jam packed with 3-Way Conferences, numerous camps, P/1 and 2-6 Concerts, as well as our athletics carnivals and another round of interschool sport. I can assure you; Term 3 is not the quiet term.

Our final assembly for the semester will be held on Friday at the earlier time of 2:00pm in the gymnasium.

Interschool Sport Finals

I would like to acknowledge the amazing efforts of all the teams who made it through to finals for interschool sport. The Girls Tee-ball, Girls A and Mixed B Netball Team and the Boys A and Mixed B AFL 9s teams competed last Friday in finals held at Ivanhoe Grammar and Chelsworth Park.

The Tee-ball team came up against St Anthony’s, a team who had comprehensively won during the regular season. The first innings went to form, however the APS girls showed great determination to pull back the large opening margin in the remaining innings. The girls can be extremely proud as this was a significant improvement on their earlier season match.

The Girl’s A netball team played Buckley House in a tough contest. The team showed resilience throughout a physical and fast paced game, eventually going down to a strong team. The laughter and positivity from the girls throughout reinforced the true meaning of primary interschool sport.

The Mixed B netball team took on St Johns in the semi-final. Having been the dominant team throughout the season, the B team headed into the contest confident that if they played as a team and to their strengths, they could execute a competitive game. The team succeeded and progressed to the final where they continued their season winning ways, securing the win for B division and adding a trophy to the APS collection.

The mixed AFL 9s team met Ivanhoe East in the semi-final. It was always going to be a close match after a tightly fought contest in the regular season. Ivanhoe East started very well and got out to an early lead. But credit to the spirit of the APS team who never gave up and came storming home. With just minutes to go they had the margin down to one straight kick. They peppered the goals in the dying moments, coming up just 3 points short. Sophie played her best game of the season, winning lots of the ball throughout. Ollie battled extremely hard against a very tall opponent in the ruck. The improvement from this group as the season progressed is quite unbelievable.

The Boys AFL 9s team met Ivanhoe Primary in the semi-final. It was clear from the start that the semi-final was going to be much harder than our earlier meeting. The APS boys started well but were a little off in terms of executing their skills and sticking to the game plan of fast, crisp movement, and always looking to lower the eyes for an effective target; often bombing the ball long instead. The boys eventually started to get on top with a bit too much size, pace and skill. But it was a good hit out.

The start of the grand final could not have been more of a contrast to the semi-final. The message of playing in the moment, having fun and focussing on our plan - controlling what we could control was executed beautifully, with APS piling on 4 quick goals – 3 from Gus who seemed everywhere in the forward line. Our midfield group was dominating and the backline kept pressing up with their pressure showing in the score.

The second half saw Ivanhoe East lifting their intensity and two very talented teams fought out an at times heated contest. APS however remained team orientated and were able to continually kick goals anytime Ivanhoe East looked to make a challenge. The boys will now progress to the divisional finals on Tuesday 22 July.

Thanks to all the parents and families who made the effort to get along to the finals to support our students. It is much appreciated.

Lost Property

Tomorrow a team of Year 5 students will be sorting through the mountain of lost property. They will endeavour to get all named lost property back to the owners. However, there will be some remaining pieces laid out in the quadrangle. Please review the final lost items or remind your child to do this by Friday morning as any remaining items will be sorted into second-hand, charity, and items for rubbish.

Head Lice

We have had a number of cases of head lice reported throughout the school. Please take the time over the next couple of weeks to regularly check your children's hair and treat if necessary. Follow up treatments are important to break the cycle.
