Foundation Learning Community News

Our little learners have been on a big learning journey these past two weeks!
In Literacy, we’ve been exploring the picture storybook A Surprise for Dingo, which tells the story of a surprise party held for Dingo in the Australian Outback. As part of our language experience, we made iced biscuits for the character of Dingo. After decorating our creations, we wrote about them and then we even got to eat them!
In Maths, we’ve been working hard to understand the place value of two-digit numbers. Using concrete materials such as counters, ten-frames, bundling sticks and base-10 blocks, we’ve learned to group tens and ones to make numbers. We now know how to count the tens and ones to work out what number we’ve built.
In Inquiry, we had an exciting second visit from the firefighters — and this time we got to look inside their truck! We had a turn using the hose, explored some of their special equipment, and even heard the siren up close. It was very exciting!
