BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED

DRILLS

Each term, we conduct one of three emergency drills: an internal evacuation, an offsite evacuation, or a lockdown. When it is our first time practising a particular drill for the year, staff and students are briefed in advance, and tailored supports—such as social stories—are prepared for those who need them.

Following each drill, our OH&S team evaluates the process and implements actions to improve its efficiency and effectiveness. Occasionally, our smoke detectors may be triggered by steam or dust, resulting in an unplanned evacuation and a response from the fire department to investigate and reset the alarms.

Our students are very familiar with these procedures and, pleasingly, are able to move confidently into safety lines and assemble on the netball court—even if the drill occurs during lunchtime.

ENCLOSING FURTHER CLASSROOMS

School Council has approved the commencement of the procurement process to enclose the remaining three classrooms on Level One (Discovery). We are hopeful that work may begin during the September school holidays.

In addition, I am currently preparing a grant application with the aim of enclosing as many learning spaces as possible, in both ground floor Discovery and the Drill Hall. It is expected to be a competitive process, but we remain optimistic.

USE OF FUNDRAISING MONIES

Thank you for your feedback regarding the use of fundraising dollars for 2024 and 2025. After considering input from students, staff, and families, School Council has made some key decisions.

As Katrina mentioned in her recent update, School Council has approved the allocation of 2024 fundraising funds towards the installation of air conditioning in the Discovery Building. The $45,000 raised will be supplemented by school funds to install as many units as possible. We are currently assessing the capacity of the existing switchboard and have commenced the procurement process. I’m hopeful that by next summer, our learning environment will feel significantly improved.

Looking ahead, School Council has also endorsed the use of 2025 fundraising dollars to enhance our outdoor play spaces. I am currently exploring the feasibility of a range of options and look forward to sharing more details as plans are finalised.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

On Wednesday, 30th July we will hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM), where we will share the 2024 Annual Report. The AGM will commence at 6.00pm and will be held in the staffroom. Parents and Carers are most welcome to attend.
