As always, we love catching up with news from our former Collegians.
No, we are not returning to an era of corporal punishment!
Instead, on Monday, 16th June, Mazenod College hosted a Professional Development Day for School Nurses who work in both Primary and Secondary Schools in our Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS). As part of this day, our Nurses required the expertise of a Physiotherapist, who would instruct them and demonstrate the best methods for strapping sports injuries and other physical injuries amongst our students. Hence, I had the great pleasure of inviting back to our College, one of our former students, Keegan Fernandes (Class of 2019) to guide our Nurses in this Professional Development Session.
Keegan was a great success, and the Nurses commended him for his friendly nature and the way in which he communicated the relevant information in direct, lay persons’ language, without complicated jargon. We thank Keegan very much for his kindness, expertise and time! It was a great joy to have him back amongst us on the grounds of his alma mater. We also thank Keegan’s employer for allowing him to take time off on his workday and support us at Mazenod College.
We acknowledge and thank the Narre Warren Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic for their support.
We are always keen to promote our Old Collegians and their professions, businesses and trades. Please feel free to contact us at Mazenod College. We will include these in our Mazenod College Newsletter, The Mazenod Gazette, as well as on our Alumnly Website and on our Mazenod Old Collegians’ Association Facebook page.

St Simon’s, Rowville, encourages our students and young adults to attend their weekly Youth Mass on Sunday evenings at 5pm. This Mass is celebrated every Sunday at Simon’s, Rowville, and while it encourages young people to attend, everyone is very welcome.
Similarly, our students, young people, and everyone, is welcome to attend the Youth Mass which is run by the St John Vianney’s Youth Group. This Mass is held at 5.30pm on the first Sunday of each month. Both these Youth Masses provide wonderful opportunities for our young people to draw closer to God, be connected to their Parish Communities, and make friendships. Once again, everyone is welcome to come along to these Masses.
Last Sunday, it was a veritable smorgasbord of Mazenod Old Collegians, their Parents and their families at the 10am Mass at our Oblate Parish of St John Vianney’s, Springvale North. Hosted by the Italian Community, and celebrated by our very own College Chaplain, Fr Dominic Rozario OMI, and concelebrated by Fr David Francis OMI, the Parish Priest of St John Vianney’s and Fr Harry Dyer OMI, our College Rector, we had a full Church who attended this Mass.
After Mass, we had the blessing of the bread in honour of St Anthony’s and light refreshments. Our connection with our Mazenod Old Boys meant that everyone we turned we had the Parents of our Old Boys, as being integral to the organisation of this day. These included Frank Salerno, Yvonne Buordolone, and Rita Santucci. Even our Sacristan, Lawrence Maslamoney is one of our former Parents.
Through our connection with our Old Boy, James Fernando, and his family, I asked James’ sister, Sarah Fernandes to lead our singing for this Mass. Sarah’s voice and guitar playing were the perfect musical accompaniment for this beautiful Mass. In response to Sarah’s kindness and support for our Oblate Priests and our current and past families, we are happy to advertise Sarah’s “gig” on Sunday, 6th July.
Her discount code is DJSUKI and the link to her gig is: https://www.intix.com.au/event/your-shot-vic-2025/information
Many of our Old Boys might be looking to buy religious bracelets as gifts for their family and friends. These bracelets are the perfect gift! They have been hand made by our very own Fr Dominic Rozario OMI, our College Chaplain, and he has blessed them, too! They are for sale at $15 each. All proceeds go to the Oblate Seminarians in Bangladesh. For further information, please feel free to contact Tina Giacco at Mazenod College.
We encourage our Mazenod Old Collegians to sign up and join our alumni digital platform. Please download the Alumnly app and register for a FREE account today.
