Rector's Report

Greetings to you all!

Welcome to the final newsletter for Term 2. I know you will all enjoy the beak from the college routine. We look forward to seeing you all again when Term 3 commences on Tuesday July 22.

Farewell to our Local Bishop

Our local Auxiliary Bishop for the Southern Region is Bishop Anthony Ireland; however, it was announced on Friday June 20 that Bishop Anthony Ireland has been appointed by Pope Leo XIV as the next Archbishop of Hobart. Bishop Ireland will be installed as the new Archbishop of Hobart on Tuesday 12 August 2025. He succeeds Archbishop Julian Porteous who has served as Archbishop of Hobart since 2013. Bishop Ireland was appointed by Pope Francis as Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne in May 2021 and was ordained a Bishop on 31 July 2021 at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne. We pray for Bishop Anthony as he undertakes his new ministry in service of the Catholic Church.

A Holiday Prayer

I know, O God, that wherever we travel, You will be with us.

There is nowhere we can go, no situation we can face, that is outside Your love and strength;

and so I place my family and friends into Your care and love whatever journeys we undertake these holidays, knowing that at all times we are held safe in your hands.

St Eugene de Mazenod

Pray for us.

ACC Sports

Congratulations to all our students and staff who participated in the ACC sports program. A special mention to the teams who made it through to the grand finals and were ultimately successful in their various sports.

Thank you for your Oblate Missionary Spirit and Support

The Oblate seminarians in Bangladesh are delighted to have received their new water filter thanks to the support of the students, staff and families here at Mazenod who purchased a homemade rosary from Fr Dominic. Unlimited clean water is now a valued resource to be enjoyed. Great work everyone!!

Rosies Mission

"For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you invited me in." - Matthew 25:35

The Rosies Mission is a unique opportunity within our college to live out the Gospel message of loving our neighbour by meeting our friends on the street and providing a warm cuppa and friendly conversation. The streeties, our friends on the street, can access food, clothing, often shelter, through many of the great services in Melbourne but what is often missed is the feeling of community through human interaction. This is what Rosies is renowned for, creating a community atmosphere where streeties and volunteers can encounter each other based on our shared human dignity.

Rosies is now open for volunteers (over 18) so why not volunteer for a Wednesday night experience by gathering a couple of Mazenod parents and contacting the Rosies Office on 9795 5077. The commitment is from 7.30pm until arriving back at the Mulgrave office next door to Mazenod College around 10.30pm.

As this is the final newsletter for Term 2, let us try something different for the holiday period. Can you guess the expressions in these puzzles. Results will be in the first newsletter for Term 3.

Till next term.

Yours in Jesus Christ and Mary Immaculate
