Illness and exclusion periods.
Hello families,
We have had a bit going around the school at the moment, from headlice, gastro, slapped cheek and influenza.
School exclusion periods for infectious diseases.

Common school illnesses:
- Vomiting – 24 hours from LAST vomit
- In an outbreak of gastroenteritis (more than 2 students) exclude until there has not been vomiting or a loose bowel motion for 48 hours, and for all other diarrhoeal illnesses exclude until there has not been vomiting or a lose bowel motion for 24 hours
- Conjunctivitis – until discharge has ceased
- Chicken pox – 5 days from rash appearing or until blisters have dried
- School sores – return once treatment has commenced with all open sores to be covered at all times
- Influenzas, RSV & COVID – return to school when well (minimal cough and mucus nil temps - usually 48-72 hours)
- Temperatures – Borderline Readings: If a child feels warm or measures around 37.5°C to 37.9°C they will be monitored, any reading over 38°C they will be sent home.
- Headlice, scabies and ringworm - exluded until the day AFTER treatment has commenced
- Strep throat - exclude until the child has received antibiotic treatment for at least 24 hours and the child feels well
