The Italian Update

Italian Update
for Foundation, 1C and Years 5/6!
Ciao A Tutti!
What a great Term 3 for Italian! Our Foundation students have continued to learn about Pinocchio and his friends. We explored colours and festa words. Through songs and stories, we investigated numbers from 0 to 10. We are now counting backwards and by 2’s! Che super stelle! In coming weeks, we will be focusing on our school garden where we will be busy exploring and learning new words and phrases with ‘Bruco Lino, the caterpillar!
Year 1C started the term revising numbers from 0 to 10. Through songs and games, we were introduced to the numbers from 11 to 20. Through student interest, we increased our number knowledge to 100 and beyond! Students studied number patterns and number rules where they applied this knowledge to create big numbers. We are now looking at different types of weather through song, dance and poetry! Students have enjoyed singing about ‘il vento e il sole – the wind and the sun’ and playing our games and revising colours via written tasks!
Our talented Year 5/6 students have continued to shine! Each Year 5/6 class has now a display of student work. It is amazing. At the beginning of the term, students completed their final copy of their paragraph writing about themselves where they applied new and prior knowledge in context. Students studied language structure and experimented with the Italian language to create their very own sentences!
Our Year 5/6 students completed a mini unit on The Commonwealth Games where they focused on participating countries and sporting events! Students designed and labelled their very own sport uniform by choosing a country and a sport. We completed some Maths tasks by using ordinal numbers and the medal tally where students again used their language knowledge to write in full sentences.
We are now focusing on history, on Ancient Rome the Eternal City, a topic chosen via student interest. We are studying The Rise of The Roman Empire from Myth to Empire, from Romulus and Remus to the Romans conquering land. We are learning about the architecture, the daily lifestyle, the inventions and the landmarks that are still in existence to this very day!
What a term! What talented students we have here at NPS!
