Writing about our heroes!
Grade 1/2 – Building Resilience Through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness
This term, our Grade 1/2 students have been continuing to build their emotional literacy and resilience through The Resilience Project. We have been embedding the key elements of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM) into our daily classroom routines to help students understand themselves, connect with others and develop positive relationships.
Through our regular GEM chats, students have been taking time to reflect on moments they are grateful for, celebrate the people who support them and recognise the many “school heroes” who help make our community such a caring place. Students have explored how teachers, education support staff, office staff, grounds staff and their peers all contribute to making our school a place where everyone can feel valued and included.
We have also been developing our emotional literacy by learning to identify, name and talk about our emotions. Students have been practising noticing how emotions feel in their bodies, understanding that all emotions are okay, and building strategies to help regulate and respond to different situations.
Through mindfulness activities, thoughtful discussions and daily reflections, students are learning that small moments of kindness, gratitude and empathy can have a big impact on themselves and those around them. It has been wonderful to see our Grade 1/2 students becoming more aware of their own feelings and showing greater care and understanding towards others.
Thanks
Izzy
