Setting Students Up for Success

The beginning of the school year is an important time for children as they settle into new routines, classrooms and friendships. Feeling safe, calm and prepared each day helps children engage positively in learning and build confidence at school.

One of the most powerful ways we can set students up for success is through predictable routines. Knowing what to expect helps children feel secure and ready to learn. Simple routines at home, particularly in the mornings and evenings, support children to arrive at school rested, regulated and ready for the day ahead.

The start of the school day is especially important. This time allows children to connect with their teacher and peers, settle into the classroom, and understand what the day will look like. When children know what is expected of them, they are better able to focus, participate and manage their emotions.

We also understand that families can experience changes or challenges, and establishing routines can take time. During unsettled periods, consistent routines are especially reassuring for children, as they help provide a sense of stability and calm.

By working together and maintaining strong communication between home and school, we can support children to feel confident, supported and ready to learn each day. Thank you for the important role you play in helping set your child up for success.
