Assistant Principal's Report

By Amanda Seach

Setting the Scene for a Successful Year

The first weeks of school are an important time to lay the groundwork for a positive and productive year ahead. During this time, we have been intentionally building a strong culture of belonging and learning to create the conditions for both students and teachers to thrive.

Our focus has centred on the following priorities:

Building a Culture of Belonging and Learning

  • Where every learner feels safe, supported and ready to engage
  • That reflects and upholds our school values
  • That brings our Learning Norms to life each day
  • Where all students feel seen, heard and respected

Growing Positive Relationships

Strong relationships are at the heart of student wellbeing and success. Throughout these first weeks, teachers have taken time to get to know each learner - their interests, strengths and cultures - so that every child feels known and valued.

Students have also been supported to build positive peer connections through activities that promote inclusion, kindness and respect. These early opportunities to work and play together help establish supportive and collaborative classroom communities.

Strengthening Home–School Partnerships

We value healthy and respectful relationships between students, teachers and families recognising that strong partnerships play a key role in student success. To support this our Getting to Know You interviews for Years 1-6 will be held during Weeks 3, 4 and 5 and can be booked via Compass. Our teachers look forward to connecting with you and learning more about your child.

Designing Learning Spaces for Focus and Engagement

Students are supported to develop a sense of responsibility for their classroom environment and an understanding of how physical spaces support learning.

This year, we are excited to introduce new student furniture across the school. Prep, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 6 classrooms were upgraded over the holidays, with the remaining year levels scheduled to receive new furniture during the next school holiday break. The new desks feature a natural timber tone which helps create a calm indoor environment. They are also individual desks that can be arranged flexibly to best support different learning activities.

You may also notice fewer posters and displays at the front of classrooms. This is intentional, as we aim to create optimal conditions for student attention and focus during instruction. Classroom environments are thoughtfully organised to minimise distractions and maximise learning.

Co-Creating Clear Expectations

Behaviour and learning expectations are developed with student voice, ensuring clarity, consistency and shared ownership. Establishing consistent classroom routines builds predictability, which helps students feel secure, confident and ready to learn each day.

Building Understanding Through the Science of Learning

Students have been introduced to the Simple Model of Memory and are learning how short-term and long-term memory work together to help learning “stick.” By understanding the Science of Learning, students gain insight into why lessons are structured in certain ways and how their active participation strengthens their learning.

We are so proud of the positive start our students have made and look forward to a year filled with growth and connection.
