Last Tuesday we welcomed all staff back for our 2026 school year. Teachers worked together to strengthen our teaching practice and application with a focus on explicit explanation and modelling, two powerful strategies that support all students to learn with confidence and clarity.
The day was presented by two of our Education Improvement Leaders, Siegrid Fischer and Martyn Waters. Through the day, teachers explored how clearly explaining what we are learning, why it is important and how to achieve it helps students feel more secure and successful in the classroom. By breaking learning into small manageable steps and using clear and consistent language, teachers can reduce confusion and ensure all students understand what is expected and how to be successful.

Teachers also enjoyed the opportunity to model and rehearse specific explanations that have been planned, to then receive specific feedback on how we can achieve total clarity for everyone.
The day provided opportunities for collaboration, reflection and practical planning to ensure our teachers and students continue to experience the best classroom learning experiences. We look forward to continuing this work and the positive impact this will have on student engagement, understanding and achievement.
