Principal News
Welcome back
Welcome back everyone, I hope a safe and enjoyable break was had by all. It has been wonderful visiting classrooms this week and hearing about all of the activities and travel that students engaged in over the holidays. Personally, I had a fantastic time hiking around Yosemite National Park with my wife Rosanne (the picture above is from our hike to Cloud's Rest), in the warm sunshine of the American Summer. The breathtaking views and hiking trails provided the perfect escape. I am now excited to be back at school, however, I must admit, acclimatising back to the cold Melbourne winter has been a challenge!
As we settle into Term 3, I am excited to share that we have a jam-packed calendar ahead. Our students in Years 3, 4, and 5 can look forward to their respective camps, offering them unique outdoor learning experiences. We also have Book Week, a celebration of our love for reading.
Our Year 5 and 6 students will showcase their dance skills in Dancesport, an event that always brings out impressive talent and enthusiasm. The House Athletics Carnival will see our students compete in a wide range of track and field events, while Italian Day will immerse us all in the rich culture and traditions of Italy. And let’s not forget Footy Day, a favourite among many, where we celebrate our love for all codes of football.
These are just a few highlights of what’s to come, and I encourage everyone to participate and make the most of these opportunities. Together, let’s make Term 3 another memorable time for our school community.
Onsite Allied Health Sessions
As shared in Term 2 newsletters, we will now be allowing Allied Health Professionals to come onsite and provide in-school time therapy sessions. This is related to students who are currently connected to external therapists outside of school hours such as Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists etc (self-funded by families or through NDIS). This is not an offer from the school to provide such therapies. If you would like to take up this opportunity please send an email to the school at cheltenham.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au. Before sessions commence, Allied Health providers will be required to complete the necessary Department of Education paperwork.
Sporting Triumphs - Congratulations Ms Boucher and Mrs Ward
Miss Boucher - Oceania Indoor Hockey World Cup Qualifiers
Miss Boucher headed up to Canberra for an Australian indoor hockey camp as a member of the Australian squad. She had 3 days of intense training, learning and fitness to be selected for the Australian team. Miss Boucher was incredibly selected as one of the 12 players (there were 32 players at the training camp) to compete in the Women's Indoor Hockey team in a Trans-Tasman showdown. The competition was to decide which nation would advance to the 2025 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in Croatia in February next year. From June 24 – 26 at the National Hockey Centre in Canberra, the very best indoor hockey players competed in the Trans-Tasman clash in a best-of-three series.
In the women’s tournament, the opening game was a tense affair with both defences holding strong for much of the match. After three goalless quarters, Australia finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute and held on to that slender lead till the final whistle to take all three points. The second match was a much more entertaining affair as Australia scored early and held the lead twice but New Zealand bounced back both times to draw the match 3-3, and split the points, setting up a crucial final match to decide the World Cup qualification. New Zealand twice took the lead in the final game but Australia mounted comebacks both times and the third game ended with an identical scoreline to the second, with teams finishing tied at 3-3. Australia finished the event with 5 points while New Zealand settled for second place with 2 points, making it a double delight for Australia in qualifying for the upcoming FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup 2025.
“It was an incredible experience to be able to play in the green and gold again, especially since the last time I represented Australia was in 2018. I have been very lucky to have been a part of the Australian Indoor Hockey squad since 2010 but this was the first time I have ever been able to play for Australia, in Australia. Being able to have the home crowd and my family and friends supporting me was very special.”
We now wish Miss Boucher the very best as she strives to again book a place in the Women's Indoor Hockey Team to compete in the 2025 World Cup in Croatia. Everyone at CEPS wishes her the very best of luck!
Mrs Ward - Royal Siam Cup 2024
Over the July school holidays, Mrs Ward travelled to Pattaya Thailand to compete in the Royal Siam Cup 2024 - a World Dance Organisation Championship event. In her spare time, Leisel is a passionate Latin American Dancesport competitor, who has represented Australia at several national and international competitions.
On this occasion, Leisel competed with her dance partner Igor Ifliand and together, they won 2 gold medals and 4 silver medals for Australia, in the ProAm events. She is currently the highest-ranked Australian ProAm competitor in our country.
We are very proud of her efforts and applaud her dedication. Leisel is committed to proving how important it is to find a balance in work and passion to create a fulfilling lifestyle. She invites you to stop by and chat with her anytime, to share your success story!
Parent, Teacher and Student Conferences
I want to extend my thanks to our families, teachers and students for attending the Student, Parent/Caregiver, and Teacher Conferences late last term. Your attendance participation was greatly appreciated and crucial in enabling a collaborative environment for our students' success.
I hope these conferences provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss your child/ren's achievements and areas for future growth.
Thank you once again for your time, effort, and commitment.
A reminder to the families of 4A and 6B, Mr Crebbin and Miss Boucher will be running the conferences from Week 3 this term. Please access Sentral to book a time.
