National Schools Tree Planting Day

Today we celebrated Tree Planting Day with a visit from Ku-ring-ai Council Bushcare. Jeanna Wilson from the council helped us plant over 20 new trees, shrubs and ground cover around our new playground. Our school applied a few months ago for the allocation of plants and we are grateful for the support we have received.

Native Bees are Coming!

Last term Holy Family applied for an Environmental Grant through Ku-ring-ai Council for a Pollinator Package. This package includes $1500 worth of pollinator plants and a Bee Hotel. We are thrilled that we were successful, and the stingless bees should be arriving sometime this term.

Solar Car Racing

Next Wednesday, our Stage 3 students will learn about solar energy and how it works. Students will work in pairs to assemble their own solar car out of parts and then run them in a solar car race outside on a sunny flat piece of ground at our school. We hope the students will understand how solar can really benefit them and their communities and perhaps ignite a spark of interest in renewable energy.

This is another initiative from Ku-ring-gai Council that Holy Family have engaged in.

Have a lovely weekend
