Leadership Report

Written by Brent Syme

Dear Saltwater Families,

Welcome to Week Four of Term Three. The last few weeks has seen us begin the day with some of the coldest days on record! Nevertheless, we have much to be grateful for as we've shared some wonderful school activities.

NAIDOC week

NAIDOC Week is a celebration held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was a great opportunity to engage our students in a range of educational and fun activities to promote understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures. Our students engaged in indigenous storytelling, art and writing activities, to share traditional stories and Dreamtime stories. Our Prep students engaged in an Art workshop using the indigenous art technique of dot painting, led by one of our parents who is an Indigenous artist. We can't wait to see the final product mounted in our school office.

Punctuality- Late Arrivals

There has been a significant increase in the number of students arriving at school after 8.30am in the Primary School. This causes disruptions for the classroom teachers and other students. It can also be uncomfortable for the students who are consistently late. Please ensure that your child/ren is at school on time. A good time to aim for is between 8:20am - 830am. If your child/ren is late to school, please make sure they sign in at the office kiosk.

100 Days of Prep!

The Prep celebration of the 100th day of school was held last week. Congratulations to all our Prep students and teachers on this important school milestone. Our students participated in fun and engaging learning activities, which reinforced fundamental academic concepts. It was a joyful way to acknowledge the progress students have made since the start of the school year and encourage them to continue their educational journey with enthusiasm. We thank all our teachers, students and families for the incredible efforts they went to on the day.

2025 Prep Enrolments

During Term Two, we conducted school tours on Friday Mornings for prospective Prep students and their families. We would like to remind any of our current families to enrol their school-age children as soon as possible. Enrolment forms can be sourced on our school website. Letters of enrolment offers will be sent to families in mid-August, so we ask for all enrolments to be completed before that day. We are looking forward to welcoming our new students and their families to our school community in the near future, with Prep Transition details being shared on Tuesday 17 September.

Staffing Update

This term, we have recruited a number of new staff members for various roles, including classroom teachers and intervention/enrichment educators. We are continuing to advertise positions available as we develop our workforce plan for 2025. All our positions are advertised through the department portal, Recruitment Online. We are looking forward to the recruitment process of appointing staff to roles within our school for next year.

School Policy Review

We are excited to share that, as part of our policy review process and with guidance from the Department of Education, we have established new policies to enhance respect and positive interactions within our school community. We deeply appreciate the ongoing support and respect from our parents and guardians. These updated policies are designed to ensure a harmonious and respectful environment for everyone.

You can find the newly developed policies on our school website. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

Book Week 2024

Book Week Celebration is coming up on Monday 19 August for that week. We will hold our dress-up day on Friday 23 August. Book Day - Come dressed as a character from a favourite story. The theme this year is “Reading is Magic” We're celebrating reading stories and their amazing power to transport minds, encouraging children to be curious about the wonders in our world.

A reminder that while we love Dress Up days, we want to make sure that it is stressless for everyone. Costumes can be as simple or as complex as you like. Costumes can be bought, borrowed, re-worn, or handmade and can be from head to toe or just a prop or mask. The aim is to celebrate books and reading.
