Student Leadership

Dear Saltwater Community,

As we enter Term 3, we have many exciting things planned, and we can't wait to get started as our student leaders continue to meet with their Assistant Principals and Junior School Council members.

This week saw our House Captains and Junior School Representatives meet for the first time on Tuesday afternoon to focus on their next action for the term, supporting on the school tours for new families.

Our student leaders collaborated together to discussed why its important to have student representatives on the  school tours for new families. A few of the reasons they communicated were:

  • Offers a students perspective of our school.
  • They will be a friendly face for new students.
  • Supporting the Assistant Principals.
  • To improve their public speaking skills.

The areas of the school  that our student leaders identified as  important for families to know are:

  • Out of bounds areas: to know which areas to be safe in.
  • Toilets: which toilet belongs to each year level.
  • Office: Where to sign in when late, and where Ben the IT man is.
  • Year classrooms: Where their classroom is and the other classes in their year level.
  • Sick Bay: Know where to go if they are feeling unwell, and who Nurse Alison is.
  • Brookdale Reserve: Where PE classes sometimes happen.
  • Entry Points: There are different entry points, depending on where you are coming from.
  • Playgrounds: That each year level has their own playground.
  • Canteen: To know where and how the canteen works.

As student leaders discussed areas of the school that were important, they all also wanted to share what are the positives of being a student at Saltwater College were:

  • IB School: We get taught as a whole leaner, and get to do Inquiry learning.
  • Student Voice: We get heard, and get to have student leadership meetings.
  • Students Leadership: We have many leadership opportunities like House Captain, Wellbeing Officers, Environmental Officers.
  • Big Community: We have a big community with lots of different cultures.
  • Uniforms: We have nice and comfortable uniforms, as well as a sports uniform.
  • Programs: Dance extension, sports extension, Inter-School Sports.
  • Lunchtime clubs: Lots of clubs you can go to with your friends.
  • Specialist: There are lots of fun specialist like Media, Spanish, Mandarin and Music.
  • Enrichment: There are lots of small group support to help us with our learning.

We look forward to meeting again next week, so we can put all our knowledge into action and start practising their school tours.
