Year Six
Dear Year Six Families,
It is all happening in Year Six as we have immersed ourselves into our research for our upcoming Year Six PYP Exhibition.
Year Six Girls AFL Tournament
A big CONGRATULATIONS to our Year Six Girls AFL team who competed at Regional finals on Tuesday the 30th of July.
Whilst they didn't come away with a win, we are so incredibly proud of the effort and skill they showed in their training and on competition day.
Well done to our players, Annika, Honey-Lee, Addison, Sasha, Zara, Sarisha, Alyna, Natalia, Adit, Leyla, Rakaia, Aluel and a big thank you to Mr Peterson for coaching the team.
Literacy
Our Year Six students have been diving into the fascinating world of information reports as part of our Reading and Writing focus. They've been exploring the purpose, structure, and key features of these reports, learning how to convey detailed and factual information in a clear and engaging way. Through analysing various Mentor Texts, they’ve discovered how to organise their writing with headings, subheadings, and precise language to effectively communicate their findings. Now, they're applying these skills by crafting their own information reports on topics of their choice, showcasing their ability to research, structure, and present information with confidence and creativity.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have been engaging in a unit on fractions. They have used concrete materials like fraction walls and pizza models to visually understand how fractions work. In addition, they have focused on solving more complex problems involving the addition and subtraction of fractions with different denominators by finding the lowest common denominators. Applying this knowledge in conjunction with their problem solving skills, they have also participated in engaging LED lessons, finding practical solutions to worded problems involving fractions.
PYP Exhibition
In preparation for our Year Six exhibition coming up in Week Nine, students have been exploring the key elements of the IB PYP, including unpacking the meaning of each transdisciplinary theme to help guide their topic selection. Each student has now chosen a topic that sparks their curiosity, ranging from environmental issues to technological innovations and health. They are now focusing on formulating their lines of inquiry to guide their in-depth research which they will present along with their action during our exhibition. Whilst a long and sometimes challenging process, the road to exhibition is not only enhancing their research skills but also fostering a sense of ownership and enthusiasm for their learning.
