Year Five

Dear Year Five families,

We can hardly believe it's already Week Four! This term is flying by, and Year Five is busier than ever.

Camp

In Week Two, we ventured to Camp Kangaroobie in Princetown. Despite the cold and windy weather, our spirits remained high! With our large cohort divided into two groups, each group enjoyed a three-day camp experience filled with a variety of activities in the camp's beautiful surroundings.

Kangaroobie Survivor

Campers were divided into two tribes and competed in a series of challenges designed to foster teamwork. They had to share knowledge, trust each other, and communicate effectively.

Obstacle Course

The obstacle course was the highlight of the camp—challenging, fun, and guaranteed to get campers wet and muddy while they had the time of their lives!

Life or Death

Campers were split into three teams—herbivores, carnivores, and diseases—and had to avoid their enemies in the bush to survive. Teachers and Parent volunteers became the hunters, armed with water pistols to squirt the campers hiding in the bush.

Canoeing

For some fortunate groups, the weather was ideal for canoeing on the Gellibrand River. Campers learned to paddle, navigate the water, and work in pairs to avoid capsizing into the chilly water!

Visiting the Farm

Kangaroobie is a working farm with hundreds of cows and sheep. Campers took a bumpy trailer ride to a paddock where they fed the cows their lunch. They also met Kangaroobie’s famous pig, who offers rides in exchange for a kiss on the butt!

Get Lost

In small groups, campers used their directional skills to navigate various challenges. This activity encouraged communication and problem-solving skills.

12 Apostles

Before returning to school, we visited the stunning 12 Apostles. Although there are no longer twelve, the students were still impressed by these iconic limestone formations.

Our students who stayed at school enjoyed camp-inspired activities such as designing their own camp uniforms, preparing a camp budget, and watching the classic camp film, The Parent Trap. They also researched the 12 Apostles and explored why there are no longer twelve. Inspired by Disneyland, students used their creativity to design their own theme park on Minecraft Education as well.

All students had an amazing week full of adventure, learning, and new experiences. The Year Five teachers are incredibly proud of their participation throughout the week and hope they’ve made unforgettable memories.

Girls AFL Tournament

A huge congratulations to our Year Five and Six girls’ AFL team for competing in the Regional Finals on July 30th. Your hard work, enthusiasm, and team spirit were truly impressive. You should all be very proud of your achievements!

Wakakirri Performance

We are so proud of our students who performed in the Wakakirri Performance on August 2nd. Your dedication, creativity, and passion were evident in every step and move, and you represented our school with pride. We’re eagerly awaiting the results and hope your outstanding performance earns you the recognition you deserve.

Important Reminders

  • On PE days and Fridays, students are permitted to wear their sports uniform. Students must be in their full academic uniform on the other days.
  • Our school day commences at 8:30am and students will be welcomed into the classroom each day from 8.20am, which will give them time to prepare for their day ahead. Any student who arrives after 8.40am needs to sign in at the office and obtain a late pass.
  • Student absences must be marked on XUNO as soon as possible by a parent or carer.
  • Please ensure your students get in the habit of charging their laptops overnight so that they are ready to be used for learning during the school day.
  • Book Week will be held on the 19th of August to the 23rd of August. The Book Week Dress Up Day will be on the 23rd of August, and we encourage all of our Year 5 students come dressed as their favourite book character.
  • In September, our Year Five students will be participating in the ‘Talk About It’ program run by The Life Ed Van. The program is designed to help support students to explore the concept of identity, develop safe and respectful relationships, and understand and manage the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty. Please ensure you approve and pay for this incursion via Xuno.

Have a lovely week.
