Year Four
Dear Year Four Families,
Term 3 is in full swing as all of our wonderful students have returned to school and settled right back in. We're looking forward to new learning and experiences to come, and are excited and proud of what we are achieving.
Literacy
Our author study on Jeannie Baker is providing students with many opportunities to make inferences, understand purpose and experience carefully selected descriptive vocabulary. Window captures the essence of how quickly change can happen within a community, and the impact this has on the environment.
Students have also investigated journalistic texts, identifying various forms and their structure and features. Many attention grabbing news articles are being written, with catchy headlines and the latest events being a must read for those who like to 'stay in the know!'
Mathematics
Welcome to this month’s Math adventure! We have been exploring three fun ways shapes can move; translation, rotation and reflection. The students have been risk takers, bravely exploring new strategies with how shapes move and change, allowing them to visualise and solve challenging spatial puzzles. These skills enable the students to builds problem-solving skills and help them to develop a sense of space and measurement to use in our Unit of Inquiry - Urban planning reflects community survival for future growth.
Unit of Inquiry
Applying knowledge and skills based in literacy and mathematics, the Year Fours are investigating the development of their own community, Point Cook. By analysing the census data over a period of ten years, we discovered that the population in Point Cook had more than doubled since 2011. Going further into the demographics of our community, we made predictions of future growth and are preparing to survey locals in order to plan for the community's needs.
Incursion
We were lucky enough to have an incursion with top Honda motocross rider, Emma Milesevic.
A trailblazer in motocross and motivational speaking, her inspiring talk shared how she’s defied stereotypes and achieved success in a male-dominated sport. Emma captivated our Year Fours with her powerful messages of perseverance and self-belief. Her engaging presentation equipped our Year Fours with the skillset to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams with confidence, making her a true beacon of inspiration. Thank you to our very own Saltwater superstars Oakley (Grade 5) and Hudson (Grade 4) for organising an awe-inspiring incursion. I'm sure our Year Fours can now transform challenges into opportunities and achieve remarkable success. The sky is the limit!
