Prep
Dear Prep families,
What a wonderful two weeks it has been in Prep!
Literacy
In Reading, students have been exploring various text types. Over the past few weeks, the preps have been delving into both fiction and non-fiction texts. They've been identifying key features of these texts, such as factual information in non-fiction texts.
Our focus has also been on applying the Good Reader Strategies, which help students decode unfamiliar words and make sense of what they read. We’ve been encouraging students to use a combination of strategies when encountering new words.
In Writing, students have begun learning about information reports. We’ve introduced students to the purpose of information reports. They’ve learned that these reports aim to provide factual information. Students have been labelling diagrams and using these labels to create sentences.
Preps have been continuing to use the five W’s—Who, What, When, Where, and Why when completing recounts. These essential elements have been key in helping them write about events that are special to them. In addition, students have been focusing on beginning each sentence with a capital letter, leaving spaces between words and using punctuation.
Maths
In Maths, students have been learning about place value using tens and ones. Students have been making groups of ten using bundles and Unifix Blocks. Students were encouraged to explain their thinking, for example, 'ten ones makes one ten'.
Unit Of Inquiry
In Inquiry learning, students have been exploring the new Unit of Inquiry.- Transdisciplinary Theme, ‘Sharing the Planet’, by unpacking our new Central Idea, ‘Understanding the needs and wants of living things’. Students will explore the difference between living and non-living things, inquire into the features of living things and how different places meet the needs of living things. We are all looking forward to exploring this Unit of Inquiry further.
100 Days Celebrations
What a Fantastic Day!
On the 30th of July, our Preps celebrated 100 days of school. Leading up to our celebration, the students participated in getting their classroom ready by making a poster and designing their very own t- shirt.
On the day, students created their own crowns to celebrate that they are now 100 days smarter! Our day was filled with excitement and joy, and our outdoor disco brought all the classes together for some amazing dancing.
We want to give a special mention to our amazing Preps! Their hard work and enthusiasm have been truly impressive. It’s been wonderful to witness their progress and achievements as they embark on their learning journey at Saltwater College. We are incredibly proud of all their efforts.
Thank you to everyone who made this day memorable and to all the families for their ongoing support. Here’s to many more joyful and successful moments ahead!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child's learning journey. We look forward to another exciting week of learning!
Prep Wellbeing
Over the past two weeks in Wellbeing, students have continued practising 'help-seeking' conversations. They've reflected on their own likes and dislikes, understanding that it’s normal to share some interests with friends while having different ones as well. They’ve learned that their preferences aren’t determined by whether they are a boy or a girl, and that these preferences may change as they grow older. Additionally, students have recognised they can have different preferences in different situations.
