Inquiry
Question: How can we share our past, present and future?
Global Goal: Global Empathy
In Term Three, students will be investigating life in the past and comparing it to the present. The focus will be on developing personal and social capabilities, particularly collaboration. They will explore the connections and commonalities of the past, present, and future. Students will visit Como House to immerse themselves in the past by exploring a mansion and participating in games from the 1850s. They will compare a range of houses, foods, games, transport and technology. Students will unpack their personal history by sequencing important events to create timelines (e.g. first day of kindergarten, school, first Diwali, 100 days of Prep).
Key Vocabulary:
yesterday, last week, last year, tomorrow, next week, and next year, past, present, future, then and now
How can you support your child’s Inquiry learning at home?
- Speak to them about your time at school and as a child. What things did you have? How have they changed? E.g black board to a smart screen or whiteboard.
- Help students understand how to use yesterday, today and tomorrow correctly.
What is the day after tomorrow? What will we be doing tomorrow? What happened yesterday? What grade will you be in next year? How old are you turning next year? - Talk to you child about technology and how it has changed. For example, in the past they had a quill and ink, now we have pens and computers.
Share with your child about the history of your home country. What similar things did they have to western history? What is the same? What is different?
