BOOK WEEK

What an amazing day we had on Wednesday 21 August as our school community came together to celebrate Book Week. There was a great deal of excitement as students, teachers, and staff watched each other arrive at school dressed as their favourite literary characters.

The highlight of the festivities was undoubtedly the Book Week parade. Our front oval was full of energy as the colourful class procession of characters marched proudly, showcasing their creative costumes. From classic fairy tale princesses to modern day superheroes, the diversity of characters on display along with the effort and enthusiasm of students was quite impressive. It was also heartwarming to see many families from our school community join us to celebrate the event.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make our Book Week celebration such a success. Special thanks to all our families who donated books or made purchases and to Alina for her work in co-ordinating our Book Swap activities that raised funds for Indigenous Literacy initiatives.

CLASS 5 PLAY

Class 5 performed their play earlier this term titled “ISIS and OSIRIS” on Friday 9 August. The performance centred around themes the class had explored through their main lesson focus on Egypt. Whilst I wasn’t able to attend the main performance, I did catch their dress rehearsal and was highly impressed with the quality and detail to their costumes, set design and their very intricate shadow puppets. Thank you to all the families who were able to attend and a big congratulations to all the students who took part and to Jo for her leadership of this event.

CAMPS

34A and 34B enjoyed three nights away at Camp Stringybark in Gembrook. Whilst the weather presented some challenges and changes to the program, a highlight for many students was the train ride on Puffing Billy. Thanks to Meredith, Alecia, Lochy and Bryan for attending and supporting our students.

TEAM KIDS - Introducing our Director of Service

Dear Parents/Carers,

This is gentle reminder regarding our voluntary Family Financial Contributions request for 2024.

Whilst Government funding is provided to every public school to fulfil the standard Victorian curriculum, it is contributions made by parents/carers that help ensure that our can continue to offer the best possible additional opportunities, facilities, and resources to develop to foster student learning and a passion for education.

With your continued financial support, we will be able to achieve this by contributing to the cost of consumables and resources that our students require throughout the 2024 school year.   Any financial contributions you make will also assist in the development and maintenance of our school programs, our library and our buildings and grounds.

You can make contributions to the school at any time via Compass course confirmation, located in the top right corner of the Compass Parent Portal. You can also contribute over the phone, or in person at the school office.

If you need any assistance with this, please do not hesitate to contact us at the office by phone 9417 6681 or via email Collingwood.co@education.vic.gov.au

If you have any queries, would like to set up a payment plan or need support for any payments, please contact our Assistant Business Manager Kristina Smith.

P/1B Gahan Reserve excursion

P/1B went to Gahan Reserve to explore our local community and have a picnic. Local excursions help build students' confidence in navigating roads and working as a team to look after themselves and each other. Students also enjoyed the marine wildlife incursion, learning about sea animals and their needs. They were shocked to find out that rubbish pollutes their environment and were very motivated to clean up the school yard.

Kind regards,

Rebecca

3C Farming Main Lesson

As part of our Farming Main Lesson, children in 3C have been making butter and cheese, with the fabulous Janet (parent of Charlie, better known as ‘The Butter Lady’ by many!).

We spent a morning making butter with a butter churn, turning it a staggering 1750 times to make the butter, before patting and salting it.  The children all said it was the tastiest butter they’d ever tasted – especially on delicious home-made bread.

We made two different types of cheeses – a simple farm cheese, and labneh.  The children were delighted to taste the different cheeses and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
