SOCIAL JUSTICE GROUP
We have a community activity called the Social Justice group that students can join during sports.
The Social Justice Group has been involved in various activities this year, with students in Years 10, 11, and 12 going out to help the community in various ways.
One of the activities that students have been enjoying is regular visits to two local nursing homes. They have been providing social interaction to the residents with extended social chats, participating with residents in Trivia, Bowling, and craft activities, and collecting recipes for a resident’s cookbook. The elderly residents have said they appreciate the students visiting and look forward to the next visits.
On other occasions, the group attended the St Vincent de Paul depot and helped in the warehouse. Students sorted clothing and other items into boxes, divided into different types and ages of apparel. This considerably assisted the Vinnies shops, so items were grouped, sorted, and ready for display and sale at Vinnies shops around Cairns.
The Social Justice Group has been involved in other activities, including visits to the Mercy Seville Centre at Earlville. This is a Catholic non-profit Centre run by the Sisters of Mercy organisation. The students have assisted in moving mulch in wheelbarrows and spreading it in the garden and rainforest. They have also made craft items for school groups visiting the Centre for Environmental Activities.
TCS Track and Field:
Students eligible to compete at the TCS Track and Field event have been sent parent slips. Additionally, students have been emailed about the events they will compete in, which are also displayed outside the Sports/HPE Office.
The Sports department will take all approved Peninsula paperwork to the TCS track and field event.
