What's On In Specialists

Chinese

Ni hao! This year, students have had the opportunity to explore both Chinese culture and language. In the language component, junior students have been learning basic greetings, colours, and the seasons in Chinese. They have also explored prominent cultural festivals such as Chinese New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival.                                       Senior students have focused on developing their oral language skills, including vocabulary related to food. Some students also volunteered to showcase the vocabulary they had learned by presenting confidently at assembly. This provided a wonderful opportunity for them to demonstrate their growing language skills and share their learning with the wider school community. To support the Year 5/6 integration unit, students also learned how to say the names of different countries in Chinese and explored the flags of different countries. It’s been a lovely year, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! 圣诞节快乐!

Physical Education

Our senior school students wrapped up PE lessons for the year with an energetic and engaging four week soccer clinic with our visiting coach Adem. Throughout the sessions, students practised fundamental skills such as controlled dribbling, accurate passing, spatial awareness and strategic movement, before putting their learning into action during friendly matches. The clinics have highlighted the many benefits of team sports, providing students with opportunities to build cooperation, communication, confidence and resilience as they work together. It was a great way to end a fantastic and fun year in PE, celebrating growth teamwork and love of being active.

In the Junior School our students finished up their PE sessions for the year with athletics training, building excitement for their upcoming Junior School Athletics Morning which will be the final celebration in PE for the year. Through relays, vortex throw and long jump practice students are developing their fundamental movement skills and assisting them in refining their techniques and striving for personal bests. It has been a great way for them to build confidence and prepare for the Athletics morning to conclude a successful year in PE.

Performing Arts

Students have had a busy and productive year of creativity and music making! We have been busy listening, clapping, playing, singing and enjoying the sense of community that making music together brings.

A musical highlight this year has definitely been our AMAZINGLY successful production - Step Into the Spotlight. After months of rehearsals, everything came together and we put on a wonderful show at The Round theatre - wowing our audience and making everyone proud!

Our senior students have done a marvellous job working on their music videos, proving that teamwork and collaboration can have amazing results.

Students have been building and developing their skills on various musical instruments, including xylophones, glockenspiels, ukuleles, claves, and even turning themselves into a human drumkit! It has been lovely to see the development of students’ singing voices, experimenting with different pitches and singing and creating our own songs.

Once again, music brought our community together and we had a festive afternoon celebrating the end of the year as our students sang and danced at our Carols Afternoon.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Our STEM sessions have been an amazing opportunity to grow, learn and discover the world around us! Students have learned about the core scientific domains, Earth and Space Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Biological Sciences. Students have learned how to conduct experiments and fair tests, how to share their findings with their peers and how asking questions is the first step to learning new and interesting things. Students have explored the properties of materials and how these materials impact their use and functionality. They have learned about different animals, habitats and animal groupings. We learned all about seasons, the weather and the sky. It has been a fantastic year of learning and discovery for our Mini Scientists!

Visual Arts

What a colourful and creative year it has been in Visual Arts!

Throughout the year, we experimented with exciting new mediums. Students tried their hands at printmaking, designing bold patterns and textures; crafted eye-catching skateboard deck artworks; and even learned the basics of spray-painting! A special highlight was our collection of fish sculptures created by Foundation students. One of our biggest achievements was the beautifully created backdrops for the school production, every class contributed to the vibrant scenery that helped bring the show to life.

This year also saw the creation of the Grade 6 Legacy Mural, a stunning, student-designed artwork now brightening the stairs leading up to the oval. Our graduating artists worked together to plan, paint, and celebrate their time at the school through a mural that will inspire younger students for years to come.

We are so proud of the creativity, courage, and enthusiasm our young artists showed this year. Here’s to another year of making, experimenting, and celebrating art together!
