A-Grade cricket season update
vs The Weather
Rain won.
vs Rose Park Primary
Against a good bowling unit, the team scored a solid 7/70. The team’s improved skills this season were on entertaining display. There were 4s and 6s hit on both sides of the wicket, good running between wickets, and solid front foot defences. Good Shepherd bowled and fielded very well for the first half of the Rose Park innings. However, Rose Park fought back hard, and the last three overs were a thrilling arm wrestle. Rose Park took out the win in the last over finishing on 5/73. A good game all round and the team should be proud of their resilience and tenacity.
It’s been a joy to watch the team have a fun and competitive season. The team have played with a great team spirit, improved their skills, and embraced the challenges the opposition have thrown their way. Thank you to all the parents that have helped make the season fun and easy to manage with their assistance when required with scoring, setting up the oval, umpiring, warmup drills, providing fruit etc. All the best to the graduating year 6 players: Harshiv, Cruz, Eden, and Nathan.
I look forward to more cricket in term 1 next year.

GS Warriors

WOW!! Wow, is the best way to describe the Grand Final showdown between the GS Warriors and the GS Gators. To say that this game was a heart stopper would still be selling the game short, the Warriors and Gators have had some very good and close games throughout this season, but they certainly saved the best for the grand final. Both teams were excited and nervous for the game with the GS Gators looking to create an upset and win their first grand final, the crowd was very loud and enthusiastic and there was even an appearance from the Gators mascot.
The game started very tensely with the Warriors grabbing an early basket which the Gators immediately responded with their own. After an initial close first five minutes of the game with possession constantly changing sides and scores locked at 4-4 the Gators took control and sprung out to a 9-point lead. The Warriors tried to peg the Gators back but each time they look like they could the Gators responded to maintain a 7-point lead at half time, 19-12.
The second half started with the same intensity as the first half was played and the Warriors were able to start with a bang and close the gap to just one point 21-20. The Gators were determined to finally get their win over their derby rivals and take out the grand final and every time the Warriors looked like they might take the lead the Gators responded with a basket of their own. Over the next ten minutes of the game the scores were neck and neck with the Gators maintaining their narrow lead, 21-20, 23-20, 23-22, 25-22, 25-23, 27-23, 27-24, 27-25, 29-25, 29-27, 29-28 and then with 2 minutes to go the Warriors were finally able to take the lead 30-29. From then on, the teams fought intensely for possession with the ball changing sides at least three or four times but the Warriors were able to hold out for the 30-29 win.
Warriors: Eden 10, Rhys 7, Tenny 4, Nate 4, Flynn 2, Charlie 2 & Shaurya 1.
Gators: Cooper 15, Madeleine 10, Finn 2 & Kohen 2.
Both teams should be very proud of their seasons and their performance in the grand final. The development and improvement of all the Good Shepherd players individually and their respective teams has been phenomenal. For the Gators they were able to make their first ever Grand Final and push as hard as they possibly could for the win and for the Warriors they won back-to-back Grand Finals (semester 1 & 2) going undefeated all of the semester 2 season. I haven’t fact checked this, but back-to-back grand final wins and an unbeaten season may never have been done before by a year 6 Good Shepherd team.
