Teaching & Learning
Engaging our Students and Parents with the Science of Learning
At Moama Anglican Grammar, we are committed to providing the best possible education for our students. We recognise that to achieve this, we must continuously seek out and engage with the latest research and expertise and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for our teaching staff. Throughout Term 1, all staff engaged with Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath, a leading international expert in educational neuroscience.
Dr. Horvath's extensive research outlines how the brain learns, retains information and applies knowledge, which is a crucial foundation for effective teaching and learning. By integrating these insights into our educational practices, we aim to create an environment that nurtures each student's unique learning journey and maximises their potential for success.
To ensure our students are empowered and possess the knowledge and understanding of how they learn, next week students in Year 9-12 will participate in discussions based on Dr Horvath’s research. The purpose of this session is to equip students with valuable insights into how their brain processes and retains information and also outline ways to optimise study habits.
We are also thrilled to announce that Dr Jared Cooney Horvath will be personally delivering a 60 minute Zoom session for all Moama Anglican Grammar families. This session will explore the brain, how it develops, and how things change during adolescence and early adulthood. Through fun, interactive activities, parents, carers and students will learn how, and why, teenagers think differently than adults and consider ways we can support them academically, emotionally, and cognitively.
