VOCABULARY
Free-Verse Poetry: poetry that does not use a consistent meter, rhyme, or musical patterns.
Poetic Devices: Poetic devices, also known as literary devices are tools used by poets and writers to elevate the meaning of a written piece of text.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Although Free-Verse poetry does not need to follow any set rules, it can still contain many language features. Read a poem of your choice, or read the one below and ask your child to identify some poetic devices such as repetition, metaphors, personification and alliteration. Have them then write their own poem which includes some of the devices.
