We are learning to analyse the language features of poems.


VOCABULARY

Rhyme: The repetition of syllables, typically at the end of a verse line. 

 

Repetition: writers reuse words, phrases, images, or structures multiple times within a poem.

 

Rhetorical Question: a question that’s asked for effect, not because someone is expecting a genuine answer to it.

 

Figurative language (imagery, including similes, metaphors and personification):  Used in literature to build insight and deeper meanings for the audience.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read a poem of your choice, or read the one below and ask your child to identify some language features that are included such as rhyme, repetition, rhetorical questions and/or figurative language.
