Leadership Centre

Highlight

Salamat siang,

What a term it has been!

While the Year 5s have smoothly transitioned to the Leadership Centre, the Year 6s have been entrusted with new responsibilities around the school. Friendships are emerging, students continue to develop in confidence, and we are all being challenged to stretch our thinking.

The arrival of the Year 6 jumpers this week has created a buzz in the air, and a new level of excitement. With that, it seems only fitting to reflect on how our 2024 graduates have settled into their leadership roles.

During “Leadership Hour” held each Wednesday afternoon, the Year 6s meet up to collaborate in their groups, working on special projects and meeting with specialist teachers. At the start of term, we came up with a list of 22 qualities of what makes a great leader. Throughout the year we will be exploring each quality in more detail, selecting one quality to unpack each week.

Recently, we have explored what it means to be an Encouraging Leader and a Team Player

Jessica C. explored what it means to be encouraging. She wrote:

“1. Most problems are solvable,

2. Build on success, and

3. Reassure your team.”

Harry W. elaborated and shared that he can be an encouraging leader by:

“1. Telling people little things that they are doing well to boost their confidence,

2. Using encouraging words such as ‘you’ve got this!’ and ‘you’re doing great!, and

3. Making sure that others feel comfortable with the work they are doing.”

On being a team player, Claire S. wrote:

“A team player is capable, reliable, humble, helpful, flexible, and purposeful”. She reflected “I can be a team player in my leadership role by being helpful. I can ask if anyone needs help and do what they say would be helpful.”

Leadership Hour is a time where ideas are formed, trialled and reevaluated. Students learn to collaborate, negotiate and communicate effectively.

As Term 1 comes to an end, we wish you a safe and happy break.

Congratulations to all the Year 5s on completing NAPLAN!

We look forward to a very exciting Term 2!

Have a wonderful holiday,

The Leadership Centre Teachers
