VCE Careers Expo Melbourne | Friday 3rd May |
44 Senior students departed our College at 6.30 am last Friday to attend the Victorian Careers and Employment Expo held at The Melbourne Showgrounds. One hundred employees and training organisations were present giving the students the opportunity to discuss career options and pathways. There were also seminars on interview skills and resume writing.
The Year 11 and 12 Outdoor Education class were ready for anything during their Alpine hike to Falls Creek - pouring rain, freezing cold, or even the abominable snowman. So, it was a big surprise when the nights were warm, days were pleasant, and the mountains weren’t as mountainous as expected. Instead, the group had a chance to learn about the flora and fauna, the history of the area, and how people enjoy the area now. The experience was a great way for the students to develop key knowledge and skills that will pay off during the rest of the year. There were some fun moments involving choices of luggage for the trip (a broom), choices of snacks (a tub of ice cream) and moments of overcoming fears, like having to use a drop toilet for the first time in a decade. Amazing memories made.
Well done to the following students - no absences for all of Term 1!

VCE Psychology
Students drawing the nervous system on the outline of their bodies.
VCE Food studies
The students made homemade pasta with a yum tomato sauce.
Year 11 Biology
In Year 11 Biology students have been learning about cells, cell structures and transport across the plasma membrane. For their first CAT, students investigated how starch, glucose, salt and protein pass across a cellulose membrane (dialysis tubing). Students worked well together to set up their dialysis tubing and record all their results.
So what molecules were able to pass across the membrane? We discovered that without energy, salt and glucose were easily able to due to their small size.
Year 11 VCE Food studies
The students made a yummy carrot dip and edamame bean dip with homemade pita flat bread.
Chocolate and Wattleseed Self Saucing Puddings
Year 10 Food for You
The students made healthy chicken quesadillas.
