Leadership Report

Thursday 28th March 2024

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

This will be the final newsletter of the term. Don't forget, school finishes today Thursday 28th March with a 2.30pm dismissal

Parents requiring supervision for their children will need to make arrangements with TheirCare which will be available for after school care.

Please note, staff will be attending an anaphylaxis training session at 2.45pm and will be unable to supervise students.

As we approach the end of Term 1, I wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate our students for the positive attitude in which they approach their learning. I would also like to thank our staff for their dedication and effort and also to our families for their ongoing support. I hope everyone manages to get a break over the next few weeks and we will see students back and refreshed for Term 2.

Term 1 Summary Reports

Families will have received a Summary Report for Term 1. This report aims to enhance communication to parents and provide a snapshot of your child’s progress this year.

HPS Sports Carnival

Last Tuesday afternoon, all students participated in our HPS Sports Carnival. All activities were selected by students, using Student Voice, and students participated enthusiastically. Thanks to Mrs. Scott for organising this wonderful event!

End of Term Pizza Lunch

Thank you to our amazing HPCG team for organising another End of Term Pizza Lunch! It's a great way to end the term and cannot be run without support from volunteers. Your time and effort is appreciated. Here are some photos of the team in action. Apologies for the blur, I only had a short time before our helpers were inundated with students!

Planning Week

This week was Planning Week, where staff are provided time to plan as a Professional Learning Team (PLT), as well as organise incursions and excursions for Term 2. Thanks to our staff for using this time effectively to ensure we provide high quality and engaging learning tasks. Our focus next term is a geography unit called Our World is Diverse . I look forward to seeing all the wonderful work our students achieve in Term 2!

Open Day

Just a reminder that we have our Open Day on Friday 17 May. This will be held in Education Week and the theme is: Spotlight on STEM. All parents are welcome to attend and join in some fun and interesting science and technology activities in your child's classroom. It starts at 2.15pm. We hope to see you there!

Family Holidays During School Terms

All Victorian schools have a legal responsibility to monitor, record and follow up student absences. If you are considering taking a family holiday during the school term, please contact the school office.

School Supervision

As mentioned in previous newsletters and communications home, there is no teacher supervision before 8.45am. Please ensure you remain with your child if they are on school grounds or alternatively, please use our before school care program, TheirCare.

Students should also be picked up before 3.45pm as there is no teacher supervision after this time. Thank you for your cooperation.

TheirCare is running a holiday program, please see the Compass item sent out last week.

Parent Training: ‘Children’s Wellbeing & Learning’ Session

Thanks to those parents/carers who attended our Parent Training session held online last Thursday night. This presentation was designed to provide families with an overview of Highvale’s English and Mathematics program, our PBL approach and as always, a key focus is Child Safety. By participating in this session, parents/carers will be able to volunteer to support student learning in the classrooms and on excursions.

*Please note - as we adhere to Child Safe Standards, there are a number of other requirements before being able to volunteer. This includes providing a copy of your Working With Children’s card, completing the HPS Code of Conduct and the Volunteer Induction documents (available in School Stream under the Forms tab).

Please contact the office if you have any questions.

School Tours and 2025 Enrolments

School Tours for Prep 2025 and new Year 1-6 students are provided on Wednesday mornings between 9.30-10.45am. Due to demand, tours must be booked through the school office (Ph: 9887 8000).  If you have friends, family or neighbours with school age children, especially those commencing Prep in 2025 please encourage them to book a tour to find out more about our wonderful school and community.
