The Dream & Lead Conference
On Tuesday the 12th of March, 36 eager Epping Views leaders embarked on an exciting leadership journey at the Dream and Lead Conference.
The day began bright and early at 7:30 am as we gathered at Epping Station, brimming with enthusiasm for the enriching experiences that awaited us. 36 students and 3 staff from Epping Views all headed on the train to the Dream & Lead leadership conference. The train was empty at first and we all sat down, but gradually it got more crowded as we approached the city. We all got off at the train station and hopped out into the bustling streets. We walked for 15 minutes and finally we reached the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. As we walked together, more and more schools joined us. As we entered, we heard booming music and realised this wasn’t going to be boring.
As we began, the presenters walked onto the stage and introduced themselves as Bonnie and Amanda. They talked about how their past experiences shaped them into who they are today and talked to us about how we can be better leaders. Among the 1800 attendees, our leaders sat down, absorbing the wisdom from Wil Massara, the founder of the Youth Leadership Academy and resilience advocates Skye Hughes and Trent Dennis-Lane. The event facilitated inspiring conversations with community youth leaders and peers, which helped in igniting passion for change and advocacy.
As we journeyed back to Epping Views, the conversations buzzed with excitement and reflections on the day's events. Students said their biggest learnings were the importance of bouncing-forward in hardship and the important characteristics of being a leader.
We are confident that the lessons learned and experiences gained at the conference will continue to support us to be the best leaders we can be.
Stay tuned for more updates on our students' journey towards leadership excellence!
