Term 1 Wrap up and What's happening Term 2

Term 1 has been incredibly busy in the PAC, with students from Year 7 -12 devising, refining and performing plays. Year 7 Drama are busily creating original pieces of Verbatim Theatre, interviewing multiple participants as they explore why school is important. With a strong focus on student voice, these projects are dynamic and engaging.

Stage 5 Drama completed a unit on Documentary Theatre and performed their original plays in class recently. The performances were thought provoking and boldly creative. Students are now commencing work on their scripted drama in collaboration with the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP). Rehearsing brand new plays written as part of the Intersection Festival, students are learning how to approach a script and develop characters. BMGS will host our own in-school festival in Term 2 ( 20th June and 21st June) and details will be shared next term.

Year 11 Drama have been busy completing their character work which culminated in our annual character dinner at Arjunas Katoomba last Thursday night. Students developed characters over the term and we went to dinner, with students staying in role and improvising in a public setting for over 2 hours.

On Monday 8th April, Year 11 attended a stagecraft workshop at the Q Theatre as part of the AYTF 'The Riff'.  We met our director and had a 3 hour intensive class in the beautiful 375 seat theatre space. Students will now develop an original piece of theatre to be performed next term - See flyer below.

Year 11 and 12 Drama also travelled to see Griffin Theatre Company's production of 'Summer of the Aliens'.  Please see the article below written by our PA Captains, Sierra and Matthew.

Last Thursday, Years 11 & 12 drama students went to the Stables Theatre to see the Griffin Company's production: "Summer of the Aliens". The production provided a fresh and complex perspective on the realities of growing up in the mid 1900s rural Australia. The minimal and versatile set opened our eyes to the magic of acting and how you can illuminate such a small stage with a beautiful story. This provided valuable insight into our current senior production: "Stories of Suburban road" and how the actors can really carry a performance. Furthermore, the unique experience of watching Alumni Darius Williams give a wonderful performance, enlightened students to the possibilities of what can be achieve on stage and in the future. Summer of the Aliens was an emotionally heavy yet poignant and humorous play that inspired students and provided a fantastic theatrical experience.

Senior Production 'Stories from Suburban Road' are in full swing with much needed 10-4pm rehearsals on both Saturday and Sunday of the final weekend in the holidays. Please follow this Trybooking link to book your tickets. Show opens Tuesday 7th May and runs for 5 nights, finishing on Saturday 11th May.
