From the Prefects

Ed Southwell and Halle Doyle, Head Prefects

Hello All,

We hope that your Easter weekend was enjoyable, and provided a much-needed break from the end-of-term rush that has definitely kicked in. As we head into Camps Week, it is important to look back on what has been a great Term 1. This term the students of Kinross have thrown themselves back into school life, achieving in all aspects of academic and co-curricular life.

In the realm of sport students have excelled this term. Our first XI Cricket team, captained by Charlie Anderson took out the premiership in their competition; the first time a first grade Kinross Wolaroi team has done this in many years. Sophie Williams, in Williams House, was selected into the U16 national softball side, a feat that has taken years of hard work and training, and the whole school community is both proud and impressed by her achievements. In swimming, our team had a very decorated Nationals competition, coming home with copious medals. The senior girls’ basketball team, the Cats, reached the semifinals - a massive achievement given they were up against local representative teams. Our rowing team also had a successful Nationals and won us the title of the number one rowing school in the country.

The cast of the 2024 musical, Chicago (Teen Edition), has been announced, with students Scarlett Gee, Niamh Webster, Tom Agostino, and Sam Martin cast in the production's lead roles. The show will be staged at the Orange Civic Theatre in July, and is a must watch, representing the dedication and talent of the staff and students of Kinross Wolaroi School.

Our new Year 7 cohort has smoothly settled into school life, and for boarders, life away from home. The end of this term marks the conclusion of their try-sports program, and they now transition into winter sport, a great opportunity to grow friendships, build resilience, and most importantly have fun. This term they have engaged in sports such as cricket, football, and netball. A try-band program was also put into place, allowing students to give a range of orchestral instruments a go.

As we begin camps week at the conclusion of the term, we encourage all students to give everything a go, and enjoy a practical end to Term 1. We hope all students and families have a lovely and restful holiday.

Kind Regards,

Ed Southwell and Halle Doyle
