From the Principal

Dr Andrew Parry

It is with much pleasure that we reflect on the past few weeks of notable events and achievements within our School community. Firstly, we extend our warmest congratulations to Rev Sally on her formal induction and welcoming into the Kinross Wolaroi School community by the Uniting Church during our recent Chapel Service. Her presence, guidance and warm spirit will undoubtedly enrich our School ethos and spiritual journey. It was lovely to welcome members of Rev Sally’s family and the Uniting Church Presbytery to this special occasion.

Additionally, we celebrate the success of our recent Open Day, where prospective families were welcomed into our community and left deeply impressed by the quality and breadth of our educational offering, and more importantly, the warmth and engagement of our students. Led by our student leaders, School tours provided a firsthand glimpse into the vibrant and inclusive atmosphere that defines Kinross Wolaroi.

Moreover, we commend the outstanding achievements of our students in various cultural and sporting endeavours. From the triumphs of our summer sports teams, including Grand Final victories in cricket, to stellar performances at the ISA Swimming Championships, and the National Rowing Championships where Kinross Wolaroi emerged as the leading school on the National medal tally. Not to be overlooked is the resounding success of our recent School Athletics Carnival, characterised by spirited participation, exemplary sportsmanship, and some great individual performances. In the midst of our recent accomplishments, we are delighted to highlight the resounding success of our Music Camp. The camp concluded with an exceptional concert, showcasing the remarkable talents and dedication of our students in the realm of music.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff whose unwavering commitment and care ensures that our students enjoy a rich, challenging, and enjoyable co-curricular experience.

Lunch with the Prefect Leadership Team

In the bustling rhythm of a school day, where students dash between classrooms and teachers busily apply their skills to facilitate learning, there exists a tranquil interlude, a special moment where I am privileged to sit down with the School’s Prefect Leadership Team for lunch. This bi-weekly meeting not only serves as a platform for discussing day-to-day operations but also acts as a barometer of the School’s climate and a forum for sharing joys and challenges.

For me, these meetings are more than just routine check-ins, they are a source of genuine delight and inspiration. Engaging with the Prefect Leadership Team fills the air with warmth, and their enthusiasm for life and the wellbeing of the school is palpable. It's a special highlight that brightens my week, and a time to connect in an informal way amid the administrative demands of my role.

The conversations around the lunch table are vibrant and varied, reflecting the diversity of experiences within the school community. From academic pursuits to co-curricular activities, from student welfare to community outreach initiatives, every facet of school life finds its place in the discussion.

Relationships are the bedrock upon which our school community thrives. Through these lunches, we strengthen the bonds of trust and mutual respect that underpin our collaborative efforts. Each conversation is an opportunity to deepen our connections, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

Listening is a skill that lies at the heart of effective leadership. By attentively hearing the perspectives and experiences of the Prefect Leadership Team, I gain invaluable insights into the hopes, challenges, and aspirations of our students. Their voices guide our decision-making processes, ensuring that the school remains responsive to the needs of its diverse community.

Moreover, my commitment to meeting with the Prefect Leadership Team underscores a profound belief in the importance of student voice and leadership. By actively involving students in decision-making processes, the school cultivates a culture of empowerment and mutual respect.

Above all, we cherish the simple joy of enjoying each other's company. Amidst the hustle and bustle of school life, these lunches offer a precious opportunity to slow down, savour a meal together, and share in the joys of camaraderie and friendship. Laughter echoes around the table as we swap stories and celebrate achievements.

Together, we are on a journey to create a truly special school, one that nurtures well-rounded, grounded individuals who genuinely care for those around them. Our shared vision is not merely to educate minds but to cultivate compassionate hearts and resilient spirits. Through our collective efforts, we aspire to shape a generation of young people who embody an ethos characterised by empathy, integrity, and kindness, a generation poised to make a positive difference in the world.

In the end, it is the relationships we build, the moments we share, and the shared commitment to our collective mission that makes Kinross Wolaroi School truly exceptional. As we gather around the table for our fortnightly lunches, I am reminded of the profound privilege and responsibility of leading such a vibrant and caring community.

Congratulations

Visual Arts Students

I was delighted to receive some wonderful praise of our Visual Arts students who recently camped on Cockatoo Island during their art excursion.

The Head of Societe Catering who saw that our students were well fed wrote:

“Our company had the pleasure of looking after your fantastic school in March.  We cater for schools almost daily, and I need to inform you of how fantastic your students are. Their positive attitude, their politeness, etc.

Your staff are fabulous and helped us with service (many don't) and their rapport with the kids was beautiful to see.

As a former deputy principal, I know the emails you would receive about students are usually negative, people hardly write how great the kids are out in public, representing  their school and community.

Credit to you all and please tell the students how impressed we all are with them.”

Well done and thank you.

Rowing

Five Kinross Wolaroi School crews won Gold Medals and earned the title of Australian Champions at the recent National Rowing Regatta held at the Sydney International Rowing Centre.  Two crews won silver and three bronze.  An amazing achievement seeing Kinross Wolaroi School as the top performing school in Australia.

Cricket

The 1st XV were victorious in the Grand Final of the Orange Cricket Association 2nd Grade competition and the U15s have qualified for the State Final of the Wiburd Shield. Congratulations on these excellent results.
