From the  Principal

Karen Roberts

Dear Families,

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the core principles that define our unique Carnegie PS community. Let's delve into the concept of school culture and explore its importance, especially in the context of our commitment to restorative practices.

Defining School Culture: School culture is more than just a catchphrase; it's the living, breathing essence of our educational community.

It encompasses the shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and traditions that shape the way we interact, learn, and grow together. It's the invisible thread that weaves through every classroom, and every interaction, creating a distinctive and positive environment.

The Importance of School Culture in Restorative Practices

We are proud advocates of restorative practices, an approach that seeks to build and repair relationships rather than punish wrongdoing. The significance of a positive school culture in this context cannot be overstated. Here's why:

1. Community Building: A strong school culture fosters a sense of belonging and community, laying the foundation for restorative practices to thrive. When students and staff feel connected, they are more likely to engage in open communication and empathetic understanding.

2. Conflict Resolution: A positive school culture provides a supportive backdrop for addressing conflicts through restorative methods. By promoting active listening, understanding, and mutual respect, conflicts can be resolved in a manner that strengthens relationships rather than creating divisions.

3. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL): School culture plays a pivotal role in nurturing the social and emotional well-being of our students. Restorative practices align seamlessly with SEL, promoting emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills.

4. Modelling Values: A positive school culture serves as a powerful model for the values we aim to instill in our students. By embodying kindness, empathy, and accountability, we create an environment where restorative practices become a natural extension of our shared values.

Your Role in Cultivating Our School Culture

As valued members of the CPS community, your influence is integral to the cultivation and preservation of our positive school culture. Embrace opportunities to engage with your child's educational journey, attend school events, and participate in the various initiatives that contribute to our vibrant community spirit.

Together, let's continue to foster a school culture that not only embraces restorative practices but also reflects the values that make Carnegie PS a special place to learn and grow.

Thank you for being active partners in shaping the culture of our school.

Baby News

Our Carnegie PS family grew by one more over the weekend with the arrival of a beautiful baby girl for Joel Pollard and Rebecca Batten. Bronte Michele Pollard was born early on Saturday morning, a beautiful little sister for Ziggy.

Congratulations to you all!

Last day of Term

Don’t forget the last day of the term is Thursday 28th March, 2:30pm. There will be an assembly commencing at 1.30pm on this day where our traditional Easter Raffle will be drawn.

Thanks to all of our families, students and staff for a wonderful term 1 and we look forward to whatever term 2 may bring, with new learning and plenty of action. Please all look after each other, be kind and I look forward to when we are together again at CPS next term. There are many great things planned for term 2, I look forward to experiencing these events alongside all members of our community.

Kind Regards,

Karen Roberts

I wish to acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which this is being read and pay my respects to elders past present and emerging. I wish to acknowledge our First Nations people and pay respects to them. I note further that these lands were never ceded and are, and always will be, Aboriginal Lands.
