Judy Watson – Spine and Teeth

The Grade 3 and 4 students have continued their studies into Aboriginal artists by learning about Waanyi artist Judy Watson.

Watson uses printmaking, drawing, painting and installation to explore themes relating to her Aboriginal heritage. She was trained as a printmaker at school, often using several processes, creating layers and transferring visual information across different surfaces.

By working on the floor, pouring paint and laying the canvas over textured objects and surfaces, Watson creates unexpected marks and patterns.

Inspired by Judy Watson the students felt brave enough to walk over their own artwork, dipping their feet in watered down blue paint and creating footprints across the paper.
