Enter the Wellbeing Zone

Welcome to the Wellbeing Zone. When you enter the zone, you will find a wealth of information about all the things happening in the Wellbeing space at Sunshine Heights PS as well as strategies, articles, book recommendations and events that will help build our dream and culture of Wellbeing throughout our school community, inside and outside of school, so that we can sail together through a universe of possibilities with all the emotional and social skills we need to thrive.

Social Work Students from La Trobe University

We are very excited to be welcoming two social work students - Tasnim and Joana - from La Trobe University to our Sunny Heights family next week. The students will be working across the Grade 4 and 6 cohorts and helping to support the social and emotional needs of students in the classroom and also supporting teachers to build their toolbox of SEL strategies.

If you see them around the school, please make them feel welcome!

Smile Squad Treatment Dental Van - THIS WEEK

On Thursday of this week, we welcomed Smile Squad back onsite. They will be returning to the school with their treatment dental van to complete any required treatments for students who were seen by the dentists at the beginning of this term. If your child was identified as requiring further treatment, Smile Squad would have spoken to you about this!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Smile Squad on 94486171. You can also find more information about Smile Squad at: www.smilesquad.vic.gov.au.

Break It Down Project - Final Weeks for Submission

The student leaders have been hard at work, getting out in the school community to talk to students about stereotyping and bias, helping them share their stories.

We are also down to our final weeks until submissions to our youth-led magazine close on 1st September 2023.

The Break It Down project is all about addressing stereotypes and bias, sharing our experiences and the impacts around this, and making a commit to BREAK DOWN stereotypes! The project invites all of the students of Sunshine Heights Primary School, and all young people in the West, to get involved by submitting written stories, poems, art works, photographs, videos about their experiences of stereotyping or bias - or breaking it down - to be a part of the magazine and documentary.

We are also inviting all schools in the Brimbank area to come along to our documentary filming day on Tuesday 3rd October at Visy Cares Hub and we will be hosting a Break It Down Day on Friday 13th October and run a day of bias-breaking activities. Stay tuned for more information!

How can you support your child to get involved with the Break It Down project?

We would love families to help their young people get involved in the project so they can learn and talk about stereotypes and their impact, as well as learn to advocate and take action. We encourage families to work with their children at home to create a submission for the magazine and/or documentary and talk to your child about stereotypes and bias at home. For some strategies and tips on how to do this, here's a great website

If you would like more information on the submission guidelines or need some ideas, please visit the Break It Down Website or you could also email Francine at Francine.Sculli@education.vic.gov.au

Be YOU Project - our legendary student rappers in the studio with Inkrewsive Crew

Our amazing student rappers got to head into the recording studio with the Inkrewsive Crew this week to record their amazing song on belonging as part of the 'Be You' project, funded by Creative Victoria. Next up, the students will be engaging the whole school community in the filming of their music video clip in the coming weeks. We can't wait to share it all with you next term!
