David's Message

Dear Sunny Heights Parents and Carers,

Last week was an amazing book week for our whole school. We loved being able to share our favourite stories with our students, especially during our sessions under the tree at the front of the school. I was amazed by the dedication and talent of our students, parents and staff for their incredible outfits on Thursday as well. On Friday, the sun rose and gave us all rainbows, sparkles and purple haze as we acknowledged LGBTIQ youth and made sure that our school is a safe and inclusive environment. I also had to pull double duties on a few of the days, rapidly getting my own two children into costumes for book week!

After dashing out from school on both Thursday and Friday, I was lucky enough to visit EduTech with Miss Hill, our epic STEM teacher. During the days we saw how technology can augment and enhance learning outcomes, made contact with some great colleagues at Google Education and the ABC, and I even had time to compete in the Mario Kart competition. I came a respectable third place, and have won a gaming chair for the school to support our ongoing eSports focus into 2024.

This week we have had some visitors from the Inkrewsive Crew, filming a music video with our students as part of our Creative Victoria grant submission. We also had visitors from Ardoch Foundation, working with Literacy Buddies in grade 4 and delivering a Robotics program for our grade 6 students.

We love these incredible partnerships and the opportunities they provide to students across the school!

We also had an amazing event this morning with our Fathers and Special Persons Breakfast. It was lovely to see so many of you there, and it was an absolute pleasure to work with our newest Baristas on the coffee machine. We will soon be running a few courses for a select group of 5/6 students to learn how to use the machine and continue to make coffees for special events!

Swimming has been taking place this last week and will continue for the rest of our Prep-2 students next week - don't forget your swimmers and towels With only a few weeks to go until the end of term, we hope you are all getting ready for a welcome break and rest, and we can't wait for a few quieter weeks of focused learning to get us to the end of term. Have an amazing weekend and see you all next week!

Best wishes,

David and the Sunny Heights Team
