Foundation Italian

Ciao a tutti,

I am excited about the growth our foundation students are experiencing as they learn to count in Italian. The students are learning how to count to 10 in Italian through catchy and rhythmic songs. These tunes make learning fun and aid in memory retention. The students are also actively involved in hands-on activities, games and interactive lessons. These activities promote social interaction and teamwork.

We encourage you, as parents, to actively participate in your child’s language learning adventure. You can support their progress by:

  • Encouraging them to practice counting in Italian during daily activities
  • Engaging in simple conversations using Italian numbers.

Grazie,

Signora Maria

Religion

Raksha Bandhan 2023 is a festival celebrated by Hindus to honor the bond between brothers and sisters. It involves tying a sacred thread, exchanging gifts, and offering sweets. This festival was recently celebrated by three of our students; Bhavin, Glendon and Yash.

As I was doing this celebration, my Auntie gave me a bracelet and some sweets as well. My Auntie also had put a red circle on my forehead which is called a Bindi. I felt really excited doing this because this is one of my favorite Indian events. The Bindi had red powder, a bit of yellow powder, rice and water . I really enjoyed this a lot. ~ Yash

Wellbeing ~ Managing Stress

We have come to an end of our recent unit 'Managing Stress' which the students found useful. We finished the unit with a guided meditation, which is one positive way of dealing and coping with stress. Here are some student's thoughts. Enjoy!

Meditation

During Meditation I noticed I had become relaxed because my breathing was more carefree. I found it useful because I wasn’t fidgeting anymore, I was comfy and I could clearly imagine the pegasus, meaning that the meditation was going perfectly. Overall, meditation was more than helpful and if I had the chance to have more sessions upon meditation, I would easily do it.  Enock Year 6

                                                                               Meditation

Nothing happened to my breathing while doing meditation. When Marty said “Feel the cold breeze go past you”,  I felt cold air go past me and that made me cold. Before that I was seeing blue bats and when I looked up and saw what Marty was telling us to imagine I didn’t see it all the time.

I was trying to get comfortable by lying down and putting my hands to hold my head, but didn’t like it. I tried doing that same thing but without my hands holding my head, but I didn’t like that as well. I tried sitting with my legs crossed but that wasn’t comfortable as well, it just made my headache worse (because I already had one). I wanted to have a pillow and not keep my legs straight all the time whilst lying down.

I think that we shouldn't do it too often but sometimes, it kind of made me more calm but, overall, it didn’t really work for me. Ishe Year 5

Guided Meditation

My body felt really calm and relaxed and my breathing slowed down when doing the guided meditation. I also felt really tired after it. In my mind there were a bunch of clouds and water, also dolphins jumping out of the water really excited to

see me and the pegasus.

I really enjoyed the guided meditation.

When we come back from recess or lunch, it helps us get rid of stress because when doing it it gets rid of anything in your mind that has happened before.

I really enjoyed the guided meditation and we should definitely be doing this more often.Yash Year 6

                                                                                   Meditation

We should do this twice a week, every week for a year! My body was feeling really relaxed when I meditated. I felt like a new me when I finished the meditation. My breathing was normal before but after my breathing was perfect and so relaxed.

I felt like I didn’t want to do it and I thought it would've been boring and a waste of time. But I thought wrong and I needed it and felt really calm, relaxed and happy after.

When I was meditating I was riding on the pegasus. The pegasus’s name was Chad and I rode Chad and we were on a mountain top and when Chad and I reached the top of the mountain the view was fantastic!  The scenery looked beautiful and the sun was setting and that was all my imagination. Then, all of a sudden, the Meditation was over.      Fortunato Year 5

                                                                               MEDITATION

My breathing slowed and I felt like I could concentrated  as my mind could slip away into a world of imagination. My body was relaxed but heavy at the same time, which made it easier for me to follow along with  the meditation.

I was carried by a white pegasus with golden brown freckles and a lovely, hazel mane and tail  across a clear, gleaming ocean.  I felt the smooth skin of dolphins that were jumping out of the water in excitement of my arrival.  I also felt the red, hot, crunchy sand in the beautiful desert where I met a traveler asleep on his camel,  so I lay down on the the comfy pillows that were in my gold encrusted chariot as I woke up to the real world.

I will never forget this meditation experience and we should definitely do more like this in schools everywhere.   Amelia Kaszubska Year 6

English ~ Book Week comes to an end!

We are never to old for picture story books. This year's Book Week selection has highlighted this like never before, from the dark and brilliantly illustrated 'Paradise Sands', to the heart warming and thought provoking story of sacrifice in 'My Strange Shrinking Parents',  to this delight, 'Frank's Red Hat', where we learn about being ourselves and celebrating the differences in each other. Our senior students did a text response about the book.

FRANKS RED HAT by Alex Mateski, Year 5

I think the story is an emotional rollercoaster. Why I say this is because Frank is really proud of his invention (the red hat) but the penguins shatter his dreams by not liking it. When some random seal comes up to him and says 'Can I have a hat?' it gave him motivation and courage to re-build his dream.

I think one of the themes of this book is resilience because the seal gives him confidence to not give up.

I can relate to the story because one time, when I was in prep,  I brought one of my toys and a couple of people hated them. I felt like Frank. Another time in Year Two, someone hurt my feelings (on casual clothes day) saying ‘’terrible clothes, haha’’ but my friends really liked them, so I didn't care that much.

‘Franks Red Hat’  by Jaxon Bidmead, Year 6

I think the book is about resilience. Frank cared so much about the other penguins' opinions and I think it was good that Frank then realised that he was different and that no-one can change what he loves and what he does.

The book teaches us about never giving up and being yourself, even if others think you need to change you probably don’t and if others strongly disagree with you, you don’t have to care.

I find a connection between Frank and Kobe Bryant. Kobe is said to be one of the most resilient people of all time and Frank is really resilient, even going to another level by making about thirteen other coloured hats. Even when others hated  them, it didn't  stop him. For Frank, it took a little bit of motivation and he carried on with what both Frank and Kobe probably do best and that's why  I see a connection.

Franks Red Hat by Enock Sarpong, Year 6

I think the themes that occurred in the book were persistence and resilience. Countless times Frank was getting more hate regarding his hats and less people around him. Even though Frank and his hats kept on getting criticized, he never gave up and showed perseverance. A connection I made when I was reading this book was it made me realise when football players play, there is usually hate and criticism going from fans to players but they don't give up.

Franks RED Hat Written by Jacob G-K

The story is about a penguin named Frank who makes stuff that the other penguins don’t like. One day Frank decided to make a hat and all the penguins didn’t like that. So he tried making hats with different colors. He finally had a masterpiece but, even then, no one liked it. Frank lost all of his confidence and became sad. He then, however,  found out other animals liked his hat and he had great time and he didn’t care what the other penguins thought about him.

I think that the book is trying to teach you that you don’t have to stop doing what you like doing because other people don’t like what you're doing. Just because some people don’t like it doesn't mean you don’t like it. I think at the start he was really not confident but towards the end of the story he became a lot more confident. Frank is very creative because he made hats and scarfs by thinking about it and then designing them.
